Default Carl Crawford - No Leading Example

Carl Crawford, TB's lead-off hitter, so far this year, in 107 Plate Appearances has ONE WALK.

Yes. Uno. One.

Holy Woody Jensen Batman!

I would think it will catch up with him eventually. But maybe he is a Soriano/Vlad type talent.

I don't think you can say "eventually."

He's already hitting .265 SLG, .233 OBA, .498 OPS, -9 RCAA in 21 games this year and .341 SLG, .275 OBA, .615 OPS, -18 RCAA in 84 career games.

Do we really have to wait until the future before a lack of strikezone judgment "starts" to affect him?

Interesting list he's made - - - Sosa was able to turn it around - - jury is out on Beltre and Ramirez - - - 'tho Crawford is a lead-off/speed guy - - - so, maybe Templeton is a closer match for him?

I'd bet he'd take the Templeton or Jay Johnstone career, though it wouldn't be what was advertised.

The kid's only 21 so there is hope. Jim Fregosi is on the list too and he had a pretty good career. Not a superstar mind you, but, for a shortstop, he had some nice offensive numbers. Both Crawford and Fregosi and their first 200 AB's before their 21st birthday.

Unfortunately, his 2003 numbers are dreadful.

Crawford's minor league stats suggest more patience than he's shown at the ML level, so far.

Crawford may be helped by batting 9th for a while. Of course, that moves Rey Ordonez up in the order. On a better team, that would be a good option, and may be here, despite the problems.

Could part of the problem be that, because he has Ordonez "batting" in front of him, Crawford is not getting a lot of PA with men on base?
