Default Worst headline ever

Here's the headline/link on the ESPN home page:
"LaRussa leaves Cardinals to attend daughter's trial."

The story is about someone on trial for assaulting LaRussa's daughter. She is not on trial.

Don't know why this got my attention so much; guess I am just getting tired of sloppy journalism and saw this at the wrong time. Back to your otherwise normal lives please.

Skip - I had the same exact reaction to that headline.

I had the same reaction also. It sounds like it was a sad story and they made it seem like she had done something.

All the paper cares about is that it got you to read the story.

I clicked on the ESPN link, wondering what LaRussa's daughter had done. Poor wording...

The jerk who wrote it probably gets a raise for creating extra traffic to the story.

And people wonder why I save some special wrath for the ink-stained wretches. But I guess this would be the byte-stained wretches.

Do I detect a hint of sympathy from Smed for the LaRussa family?

Will add - when I first saw the headline:

LaRussa leaves Cardinals to attend daughter's trial

right off the bat, I thought - Yellow Journalism - - he's a lawyer, betcha she's a lawyer too and this is her 1st trial ever, which he's going to see her as a proud Pop - - then I read the article and realized that she had this issue.

So, the point here is, at least to me, these bad headlines happen at ESPN.com so often that I'm conditioned to think it's a tease of great scope (at the onset).
