NY Toronto Tampa Bay Baltimore Baltimore's lineup is just pathetic. Tampa will get a slight "Lou effect" and win just enough for fourth and hope that small progress doesn't get mistaken for a plan. By next year, Toronto will be ready to overtake NY.

I have to stick with recent history too, although I think the Jays can make a decent fist of making it look like a three horse race if they can get off to a decent start.

The top two teams are very close. The Yankees are better but the Red Sox seem to be even better.
Tampa Bay is still a ways away. Baltimore is bad and I don't know if they will right the ship anytime soon. Toronto is a year or two away. if they were in the Central divison they would have a chance. Red Sox Yankees Toronto Baltimore TB |

I so badly want to pick Toronto to finish in one of the first two spots, but I'd go with:
New York Boston Toronto Baltimore Tampa Bay If the Sox can get over their underachieving ways, they could challenge the Yankees. |

Hard to be impartial with this one:
Red Sox Yankees Blue Jays Orioles Devil Rays All kinds of "what ifs" here. If Lowe/Pedro break down, if the bullpen is not an upgrade over last year (which I doubt, but, it is a legit "what if" could derail Boston). I think the NY rotation's starting 12 will start to show some collective age. Lee said somewhere that he could see the Yankees winning 110 or 85. I'm leaning towards the latter (but, I don't pretend to be objective). I could also see the Sox winning 95+ or 85. I see the Jays solidly in third. While the O's and Rays will have what is shaping up to be a lively run for the cellar, I think the Rays still have what it takes. I think the "Lou-effect" will be offset by Lou himself. I don't know how well he's going to handle the first 6-game losing streak (much less the second or third). |
