OK, the contest is on!

The contest will begin on 11/1/02. This means on 11/1, I will contact the first writer and will share what their assignment will be - - and they will have 168 hours from the time of that notification e-mail to send their essay to me.

On 11/10/02, I will post the essay on the main NetShrine site and will start a thread on the essay in the NDF. Then, the discussion begins.

On 11/8/02, the 2nd assignment goes out.

We will keep doing this each week until everyone who wants to "play" has had their turn. Once done, we will vote on the best essay.

A few housekeeping items - - - please spell, fact, and grammar check your essays. Also, don't use the 168 hour deadline mark as a target, if possible. The sooner you get the essay to me, the more time I have to convert and post it.

Also, please come up with your own title for your essay - and be originial. Try to avoid things like: "The National League in 1925" by Joe Smith.

Please also include your full name on the essay - - e.g., "By Jack Jones" - - if you don;t want you name on it, use your NDF member name.

FYI, no essays can be changed during the contest - - after the contest, if you want to update your essay, that will be allowed.

A rules add-on:

If you need to "pass" on your assignment (because of a conflict) , that's OK, and, as stated elsewhere, you will then be moved to the back of the line (and will get another turn later).

However, you need to "pass" on the same Friday that you get your assignment. If you say you want to "pass" after that first day, you're out of the contest.

SmedIndy is up this week. I will not share what his assignment is, and will ask him to do the same - - - just trying to add some fun/surprise when we see the essay.

Another idea - -

when a thread is started on an essay - - for the discussion,
everyone should use the
"Rate This Thread:"
option at the end of the page with the thread - - to rate the essay itself

it will help when we do the voting months later.............
