With spring training begining today, it's time to announce the start of the predictions contest.
ATM REPORTS 3RD ANNUAL PREDICTIONS CONTEST 1) You must predict an order for each division, from first place to last. Entries that only predict division winners will be discarded. 2) You will start with 5 points per teams. If you correctly predict that team's place in the standings, you will receive 3 bonus points for a total of 8. If you incorrectly predict that team's spot, you will lose 1 point per difference in their place in the standings. 3) Ties will be broken in the following manner--(1) By the date of the entry (but not the time of day), (2) by the number of correctly predicted division winners, (3) total number of correctly predicted teams. If there is still a tie for a monthly prize, the winner will be chosen by a random number generator. If there is a still a tie for an end of the season prize, multiple copies of the sabermetric baseball encyclopedia will be awarded. 4) The grand prize at the end of the season will be a free copy of the next edition of the sabermetric baseball encyclopedia. The runnerup will receive a free entry into the Legends of Baseball League. For the 3rd consecutive year, the Legends of Baseball League, http://www.thelegendsofsports.com, will serve as a sponsor for the contest. 5) Monthly prizes will be awarded. The contestant who is in the lead, in terms of the season's standings, shall receive one of five prizes provided by Baseball Prospectus (http://www.baseballprospectus.com). A total of two copies of their book, two premium subscriptions and one shirt from their online store shall be awarded. The winner shall have his choice of the available remaining items. There shall be a limit of one monthly prize per person. In the event that the monthly leader had already been awarded a prize, the prize shall go to the runnerup and, if necessary, down the list until a winner is named. The ATM reports is glad to announce that Baseball Prospectus, http://www.baseballprospectus.com, has become a sponsor of the contest. It's a pleasure to find one of the web's premier baseball sites to serve as a contest sponsor. 6) I will submit a set of predictions, but will not be eligible for any prizes. Any contestant who beats my score will be entitled to an extra 10% off an order for the next edition of the sabermetric baseball encyclopedia. If applicable, the discount will be added to the 30% upgrade discount. 7) The final set of predictions is due by Monday, March 31, 2003. A contestant may enter earlier and then make any changes prior to the deadline. Only the most recent set of picks will be considered as the entry. In case of any changes to the entry, the date of the amending shall be used as the date of the entry, for purposes of the tie breaker. 8) Entry into the contest shall be limited to members of the around the majors list and the Baseball Immortals Discussion List. If a contestant drops his membership from the list, then will be considered to be a withdrawal from the contest. (EXCEPTION--Temporary removal from the list, to prevent email from building up during a vacation shall not result in a person being removed from the contest.) The ATM reports list features news, commentary, stats and rumors. To subscribe, send a blank message to subscribe@baseballimmortals.net 9) The entries should be emailed to contest@baseball-encyclopedia.com. Picks posted on NDF shall not count, if they aren't also emailed to me. 10) Please please the entries in either of the following formats-- NAME OF DIVISION--1st place team, 2nd place team ... or NAME OF DIVISION 1st place team 2nd place team ... Please do not line things up in columns, with all of the 1st place teams in one row, the 2nd place in the next ... Experience has proven that such entries tend too often to turn into a mess when they appear in my inbox. 11) NetShrine division--Standings shall be kept for members of NDF. It is up to each contestant to contact me and tell me their NDF name and real name, so I can make the match in the spreadsheet. Anyone who assumes that I'd put the real name and NDF name together on my own does so at his/her own risk. The NDF division can be joined at any time. A contestant does not have to be a NDF member at the time the contest starts. The winner of the NDF division will receive a copy of the sabermetric baseball encyclopedia. If the winner of the NDF division is also the grand prize winner of the contest, the grand prize will be upgraded from the SBE to the SBE deluxe package, which shall constitute the SBE, the active players documents and a set of team documents. Eligibility shall be limited to active and participating members of NDF. If a contestant's membership to NDF is either revoked or denounced, such action will result in immediate removal from the NDF division. If the winner of the NDF division is deemed to be an inactive or nonparticipating member of NDF, such winner will be disqualified and the runnerup shall be declared the winner, assuming the runnerup isn't disqualified under that basis, and so on until a winner is declared. No determination of whether a person is inactive or nonparticipating shall be made until it is necessary to name a winner. Any moderator shall have the power to question whether the winner qualifies. In case of a such a question, the issue shall be discussed among the moderators and the decision of the moderators shall be final. While I state for the record that I vouch for the integrity of the moderators, to avoid the appearance of inpropriety, any moderator who would stand in a position to be awarded the winner in case another is disquaified will not be permitted to participate in the discussion or cast a vote on the issue. Additionally, a challenge on eligibility must come from a moderator who is not in the runnerup position.

With about 2 1/2 weeks left to go, there are already almost 40% more total entries than all of last year. Yet, the NDF division has just under 50% of last year's figure.

I'm still here, don't worry. I'm not sending in an entry until you tell me what the hell is up with the second place "prize". The link to the legends of baseball league has just an animated and nothing more. Did they go Enron on us?

Thanks for the e-mail prompting. I was busy making my draft list.
However, looking at the divisions, perhaps it would have been easier just to ask everyone to predict the NL East and AL Central. ![]()

They're still there. It's their offseason. They should be just about finishing their draft or just completed it and are waiting for everyone to put together their opening day rosters. So, I'd expect the website to be updated later on.
