1) Spring training starts today!!!!!!!!!!!
Pitchers and catchers report for the Mariners. 2) Marlins P Vladimir Nunez lost his arbitration case. He will $1.4 million, instead of the $1.75 million he was seeking. After a terrible 7.90 ERA/-26 RSAA in 17 G/12 GS in 2000, Nunez was moved to the bullpen, where he had 2.74 ERA/15 RSAA and 3.41 ERA/6 RSAA seasons. He has a 4.35 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.41, and -4 RSAA in 194 games. 3) Mark McGwire declined the Cardinals offer to become a spring training instructor. McGwire had a .982 career OPS, compared to his league average of .751, and 665 RCAA in 1874 games with the A's and Cardinals, from 1986-2001. The 3 time Babe Ruth Award winner (1996 AL, 1998-99 NL) has already been added to Baseball Immortals and has an area at http://www.baseballimmortals.net/imm..._mcgwire.shtml 4) Marlins MGR Jeff Torborg says 4 spots in the rotation have been determined--A.J. Burnett, Brad Penny, Josh Beckett and Mark Remand. Carl Pavano, Michael Tejera, Justin Wayne and Kevin Olsen will compete for the 5th starter's job, with the Miami Herald reporting that Pavano "is probably the favorite." 5) Free agent Rickey Henderson says he wants to return to the A's. According to Henderson, "I'm looking for a job, and I'm hoping in my heart Billy Beane calls me and gives me an opportunity to make the club." Henderson called Beane on Friday, to talk the GM into giving him a shot, but Beane doesn't think it's going to happen.

Spring training, the most beautiful time of the year.
Do you think the Marlins would get the most out of Redman by starting him between Burnett and Penny, a la Wakefield between Pedro and Lowe? And hey, Jayson Stark mentions you in his latest Useless Info column: http://espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stark...n/1505524.html |

It has been said that there is no such thing as bad publicity, Skip. Here's what Stark said (bolding mine): Quote:
