I was never really sure why teams didn't open up batting practice for fans. Is it just a matter of having to pay employees to be there earlier? |

Nice gesture on their part.

They should open them up for more than 30 mintues, though. Looking around in that link, though, I see they are offering "George Brett Babooshkah Dolls" on May 31. Those sound really cool for some reason......

Why not. Think about the extra concession money that can be brought in if the fans come out to see Bonds or Sosa take batting practice.

Babooshka Dolls? That sounds more akin to Kate Bush... They've done it awhile in Seattle. Watching batting practice in the Kingdome was always fun...and I'd always go to the middle deck, right field, hoping someone would hit it up there. Never did happen of course. But it was still great fun. I'm kind of shocked that they don't this everyplace else...when I saw the title I thought they were letting the fans TAKE batting practice. ![]() |

Now that would be worth the price of admission! |

that would be another cool way for baseball to promote itself.... kinda like those nba halftime contests, they could have something similar - imagine being in the batter's box and taking three pitches from randy johnson.... or throwing a coupla fastballs to barry bonds...

That would be pointless. I doubt I'd even see a Johnson fastball, just hear it hit the glove. How about taking bp from Jamie Moyer, I think the average fan can catch up with his fastball ![]() |

Any gesture to the fans, in light of the past eight or nine years is a good thing.
MLB has a lot of fence mending to do, but, it starts in 30 backyards. KC has as much mending to do as any franchise. It's a good move. |
