Default They Call Him the Streak

Stan Musial was hit on the wrist by Johnny Podres on 8-29-55 severely bruising. What subterfuge did Cardinals manager Harry Walker use the next day to continue Musial's 594 game playing streak (then the longest streak amongst active players)?

List him as the starting pitcher, then pull him for injury after the game begins?

Musial did, in fact, have one pitching appearance in his career, but that was on another occasion.

This tactic, even in a pinch, would be illegal today for the purposes of continuing a consecutive game streak.

Had him listed as the lead-off hitter and then PH for him?

Not quite but good enough.

Manager Harry Walker listed Musial as the third hitter and had Pete Whisenant PH for him. The rules for consecutive counting requires a position player to appear defensively for an inning or actually make a bona fide plate appearance.
