It was not Kingman nor was it anybody who struck out anywhere near as much as Dave Kingman.

No, not George, though he and Nolan had some memorable at bats. This guy was primarily an NLer and was a pure lefthander.

A "mote" is a speck of dust, but that's not the meaning here..

Skip used it in a thread a few weeks ago to refer to gyb and his ability to identify questions repeated from earlier threads. He called gyb "MOTES," an acronym for (I think) Master Of The Extended Study. I'll leave it to gyb to find the thread where it first appeared.
