Cool Rickey & Tony, Have You Seen Them Yet?

Rickey has to play tomorrow. Hope he comes to his senses.

GAME: Colorado Rockies (72-89) at San Diego Padres (79-82).

TIME: Sunday, 6:05 p.m. EDT.

More than 60,000 fans are expected to see the final game of Tony Gwynn's 20-year career. They may also witness Gwynn's teammate make history for the second time in four days when San Diego entertains Colorado in the season finale for both teams.

Rickey Henderson, who broke Ty Cobb's career runs record with a homer for No. 2,246 on Thursday, is one hit shy of reaching 3,000 for his career after going 1-for-5 in Saturday's 10-4 win.

However, Henderson said last week he wouldn't play Sunday if he was still short of one or both of the milestones he's been chasing, out of respect to Gwynn.

``Tomorrow when I wake up, I'll decide if I'm playing,'' said Henderson, who's can become the 25th member of the 3,000-hit club.

``It's Tony's day. I respect him,'' he continued. ``There's no way in the world you can take away the limelight from a great player like that. I really think he deserves it.''

But Gwynn, who announced earlier this season that it would be his last, says he would like to have Henderson on the field for his last game.

``It's Rickey's moment. It's not my moment,'' Gwynn said. ``My moment's after the game's over. Then, officially, I'll be done.''

The focus on the two future Hall of Famers overshadowed one of the best days in Phil Nevin's career. The third baseman had his first three-homer game, including a grand slam, and drove in six runs.

However, it was Gwynn who received the biggest cheers for hitting an RBI double in the sixth. The right fielder now has 3,141 career hits and is one short of tying Robin Yount for 16th place all-time.

The Rockies, who lost for the fourth in five games, also provided a bit of history for the weekend. With a seventh-inning double, Todd Helton became the first player in major league history to have consecutive seasons with 400 or more total bases.

The hit gives exactly 400 bases this year.

Since when has Rickey been so contrite? Where is this coming from? He'd be a fool not to play.

Hey, we saw Barry cry the other night when talking about his relationship with the fans. It's a whole new world for these guys. Must be something in the creatine.
