The draft doesn't have to work that way - - meaning best talent first. |

but his stats sold me. Can't wait to pick again! If I was going for good looking Craig Greybeck would do nicely. But there is no room for a .049 BA on my team.

Buzz - Considering Clemens pitched in the AL with the DH, and in one of the best hitter's parks in the game, what he's done over his career has been unparalleled.
His consistent excellence and durability have to put him among the top 5 pitchers of all time, and some, like Rob Neyer, argue he's the best pitcher of all time.

HOW MANY TIMES CAN I SAY THIS. I TAKE NOTHING AWAY FROM ROGER'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS. ONLY A FOOL WOULD DO SO. HOWEVER, TO SUGGEST HE IS THE 4TH BEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME IS A MIGHTY BIG STRETCH (DARE I SAY LUDICROUS), IMO.

I am not trying to day I am right. I am trying to say READ WHAT I WRITE. I was not criticizing Rocket. I have not twice asknowledged his greatness, without question. People jump all over me about what I said without reading what I said. Cut me some slack here and open the eyes.

No, I agree. He's certainly not one of the top 4 players of all-time. But say you subscribe to the draft strategy of picking at the weaker positions first. That is, getting the really good Shortstops, 2nd basemen, Centerfielders, Catchers, and Pitchers, because, compared to the other positions, there's a dearth of outstanding players at those positions. If I play in a fantasy league, my first pick is almost always a starting pitcher. There are always plenty of good outfielders to go around in the later rounds. So if you're set on getting a SP in the first round, it's not "is Clemens the 4th best player of all-time?" but "is Clemens one of the 4 best pitchers of all time?" I think he is. And considering Walter Johnson's already taken, I certainly understand the Clemens pick.

Andy - I want to say "Well said Duque!" - - but, then, every time I disagree with Buzz in the future, I'm gonna hear "If I was Duque, you would have said 'Well said!'."

Duque - the voice of reason. I have no issue debating with all takers draft strategy. That's the point. I am entitled to feel taking Roger is the 4 hole was a big mistake. Depending on draft strategy, you can make the case it was a great pick. No problem with that.
But, when you all start coming at me as if I am comparing Roger to Bobby Jones when in consecutive posts I acknowledge his greatness is when I get pissed. All I ask is read what I am stating. This is where Net says I am still sore that Clemens deliberately beaned Piazza.
