The Clock Is Ticking
Four weeks until P&C report and there's still something like 100 Free Agents still unsigned.
What will happen? A last minute flurry of cheapo-deals?

Many of them will sign minor league deals and then make the teams. There will still be some good signings, but how many quality players are really left?

oh boy! I hadn't really thought of it that way. It's just around the corner, isn't it? As to the question, I would expect a lot of last minute signings as teams look around and see the opportunity to plug a hole with an inexpensive signing. Of course, there will probably last minute overpaying deals, too.

I expect that there will be a lot of low dollar signings in the upcoming weeks. There are people out there who should be on a Major League roster for the right price. I can't wait until Spring Training even though my Tigers are looking very bad.

It's a good time for teams looking to fill out their rosters with reasonably-priced veterans. I'm guessing there will be a lot of short-term contracts signed in the next little while.

1 year, $1 mil seems to be the standard offer. Some guys are resisting. I-Rod has an offer for $6M per year from the Orioles, but is waiting to get a $10M per year offer. It may never come.

It won't. Not this year. I wonder if there'll even be a compromise or if the $6M is really IT.

I still see IRod as an ORiole, making 7.5-8 million

Perhaps, but it's bad negotiation tactics to bid against yourself. So if he flat refuses to take $6M, and no one offers him $7M, I don't think the Orioles will raise the stakes. I think poorme's "logjam" comment was dead on. If the few big names left get signed away, then there's no longer a reason for clubs to hold off on signing the smaller names that are out there. And there's always Rickey.
