Default Colon could be going to the Whitesox

1) According to reports from New York, Chicago and Boston, the Expos, Yankees and Whitesox are very close to a 3 way deal that would send Bartolo Colon to the Whitesox and Orlando Hernandez to the Yankees.

According to the New York Times, the Expos would also get at least 1 player from the Whitesox, plus some cash to pay Hernandez's salary, while the Yankees would get a couple of minor leaguers from the Whitesox.

According to the Boston Herald, the Yankees would get Antonio Osuna from the Whitesox.

2) Yankees MGR Joe Torre says he wants Jeff Weaver to be in the rotation.

3) The Angels re-signed 2B Adam Kennedy to a 1 year, $2.27 million contract.

After -26 RCAA/.703 OPS and -19 RCAA/.690 OPS seasons in his first 2 years as a starter, Kennedy hit .449 SLG, .345 OBA, .795 OPS, 14 RCAA in 144 games. He still has to prove that wasn't just a career year and has a .725 career OPS, compared to his league average of .775, and -37 RCAA in 470 games.

4) The Redsox claimed Kevin Millar off waivers, but he intends to reject the waiver claim and go to Japan.

5) The Brewers signed free agent P Todd Ritchie to a 1 year, $750,000 contract.

After 4.81 ERA/-5 RSAA and 4.47 ERA/-3 RSAA seasons with the Pirates, Ritchie had a 6.06 ERA/-22 RSAA in 26 games (23 starts) with the Whitesox. He has a 4.65 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.52, and -12 RSAA in 175 games.

6) The Expos re-signed P Tony Armas Jr. to a 1 year, $2.1 million contract.

After starting his career with 4.36 ERA/3 RSAA and 4.03 ERA/14 RSAA seasons (he also had 1 start in 1999), Armas had a 4.44 ERA/-5 RSAA in 29 starts. He has a 4.21 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.33, and 14 RSAA in 81 games.

7) According to the Chicago Tribune, the Whitesox are close to signing free agent P Tom Gordon.

8) The Tigers list of nonroster invitees to spring training--INFs Warren Morris and Danny Klassen, OF Ernie Young, Cs Robinson Cancel, Russ Cleveland, Bill Haselman, Andy Kropf, Maxim St. Pierre, Matt Walbeck and Luis Taveras and Ps Carlos Alvarado, Jeremy Bonderman, Fernando De La Cruz, Preston Larrison, Chris Mears, Rob Henkel, Jason Jimenez and Rafael Roque.

9) The Twins list of nonroster invitees to spring training--INFs Chris Gomez, David Lamb and Alex Prieto, Cs Joe Mauer, Brandon Masters and Gabby Torres and Ps Ben Ford, Michael Nakamura, Jeromy Palki and Everett Stull.

10) According to the Daily Herald, the Cubs are very interested in free agent P Mark Guthrie.

11) The Redsox finalized their deal with Bill Mueller. It's worth $4.5 million for 2 years, with an option for 2005.

12) According to the New York Times, George Steinbrenner recently vetoed a trade that would have sent Raul Mondesi to the Pirates, since the Yankees would have had to pay $6 million of Mondesi's 2003 salary. The BlueJays are already paying $6 million of his $13 million salary.

I know that there are a lot of innings in spring training, but do the Tigers really need seven NRI catchers??
