Default Lone Retiree

Who is the only player to have had his number removed from circulation by the Washington Senators?

Baseball-Almanac shows that no player ever had his number retired by either version of the Senators.

Harmon Killebrew did play for the Senators and eventually had his number retired by the Twins.

I do seem to have some glimmer of a memory about the Senators doing something for Ted Williams.

You are correct, KC. There is no number that is "officially retired" by the Senators. That's why I said "removed from circulation." There was a player whose number would not be given out.

How about 21 in memory of Tom Cheney's 21 strikeouts in one game?

Good guess, but it's not that. This is the players actual number that was no longer used

This Canadian hit .230 in an insignificant 10 year career.

The second part of the question is why the Senators never used his number again.

That's it Boomer. Good job.

He must be the worst player who had his number "retired" - either officially or unofficially
