Ash out as Blue Jays senior VP, GM
Never liked Ash - - seemed too into self-promotion. But, maybe that's how you get from the ticket office to GM? Maybe the best rise next to Cashman going from Secuity to GM among current guys in that spot?
Gord Ash is out as the Toronto Blue Jays senior vice president and general manager, TSN confirmed Tuesday. The team has called a 4 p.m. ET news conference to announce the move.Ash started in the organization as a ticket office employee in 1978 and rose to become the Blue Jays GM in 1994. He was promoted to executive vice president in 1998. The Blue Jays are a disappointing 76-80 this season, 17 games out of first place in the American League East prior to Tuesday's games. The biggest move by Ash last offseason backfired. Ash traded pitcher David Wells to the Chicago White Sox in return for Mike Sirotka. The left-hander Sirotka never threw a pitch for Toronto this season, undergoing major shoulder surgery. Ironically, Wells was saddled with injuries as well, and didn't pitch much for the White Sox this season.Sirotka had been expected to be Toronto's ace after going 15-10 for the White Sox in 2000. |

Jays seem to be just one of those terrifically underachieving teams - they have some pretty darn good regulars, a very good bullpen, and a serviceable starting rotation, but can't seem to make big leaps above .500.

Earlier this year, Dan Pleasac said this was the most under-achieving team that he was ever been on. Not a thumbs up for Buck M.
