Question Box seats or Skybox??

I am fortunate that working at a golf course affords me many opportunites for free spring training tickets. One game I was given free tickets to the Red Sox and Dodgers. We sat in the first row right behind first base. It was great. I got to yell at Shawn Green 'two hands while learning' when he flubbed a throw from second. You could hear some conversations going on in the dugout. And two youngsters got a foul ball tossed to them from Joey Amalfitano.

Then on St. Patrick's Day I got free tickets to the Twins and Marlins in the skybox in Hammond Stadium. Full buffet spread in the back of the skybox and a fridge that was restocked with soda and beer every other inning. Excellent view of the entire field.

If you could attend your favorite team's home game for free which opition would you choose??

Easy choice for me - box seats. I've been in luxury boxes before at the Georgia Dome (for basketball) and Churchhill Downs and had a great time each time. For an indoor sport like basketball, I'd probably prefer the luxury boxes most of the time. Horse racing is more of an event than a sport so it's sort of an apples and oranges comparison (sounds like the old 'problem with baseball' lament exaggerated - 2 minutes of action, 30 minutes of standing around).

Anyway, for baseball give me seats by the field in the sunshine.

Everyone that I know, personally, who once sat in a luxury box, says the same thing - once you do it, you're spoiled for life - - and nothing can come close to doing that again.

I have never sat in a luxury box. I have had seats, at Yankee Staduim, directly behind home plate, 5 rows from the field. So, I can only speak from experience on one side of the equation.

That all said, for me, it depends on who I am with and the game. If I am at the game with my wife, and it's extreme weather out - like 30 degrees or 100 degrees, and I could choose, I would take the luxury box. If I'm with my buddies, I'll take the box seats. If it's a game against a weak and dull opponent, I'll take the luxury box. If it's the 7th game of the WS, give me the box seats.

There's just not a simple answer to this for me.

I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

I think everyone would choose the box if the weather outside was poor. We should really throw that factor out of the question if this mini-survey is to be meaningful, don't you think? For me, if the weather is nice, I want to be outside - even if it were Milwaukee playing the Pirates in Pittsburgh's old ashtray.

Doesn't really apply to me - I like it when it's 100 degrees, and, if with my buds, would elect to sit outside in the sun.

I've watched a game from a luxury suite at Yankee Stadium. It's pretty much a small hotel room, sans bed, with stocked fridge, tv, hot or cold buffet, and drums full of snackables (not sure if those are part of the suite or something the owner got on his own). The porch with the seats gives a wonderful view of the game and you can stand up and turn around to watch the replay inside if anything good happens. It is definitely worth experiencing, but it's very isolated at the same time. You're not really out with any of the other fans, even the ones in adjacent suites. You're a long way from the field as well. It's a very comfortable way to be "at" the ballgame, but it's nothing like being down close to the field. Unless the conditions are poor (Clemens' 300th, e.g.), I'd take the box seats. If you've never been, though, the suites are worth a shot...once.

Default I would have to say box seats.

I have never sat in a skybox, but I would think that sitting in one would be similar to watching the game @ home.

I wouldn't mind giving a skybox/luxury box a try, anyone care to help a fellow netshriner out?

As for the question, I'd say I'd have to go with the box seats. The closer I am to the field, the better
