Danny Goodwin - - yes. WTG, Steve.
In 1971, he was picked #1 by the Chisox as a C. They passed up other first rounders Frank Tanana, Jim Rice and Rick Rhoden as well as second round picks George Brett and Mike Schmidt. Goodwin passed up a $50,000 bonus to go to Southern University, and 4 years later the Angels picked him Number 1 again. He had arm trouble and lasted seven years in the majors as a DH and 1B. He hit .236 in 636 AB. |
