Interesting choice of a presentation style!
But, boy, what a PITA to reformat!

Hmmm........even a World Cup mention in there!
I enjoyed the fun facts - like the TP on the K, the DP with no A's. One small typo on the winner of the All-Star game - Don Sutter? But, that happens in these essays, it seems, a Ron becomes a Rob, etc.

Nice sprinkle of humor too - e.g. Lipscomb.

I wonder if when Torre and Valentine got thrown out of that game in Houston, they even dreamed for a 2nd (with time to kill after being ejected) that they would facing each other in the WS 22 years later...........

Appears you've thrown down the gauntlet.
I've voted for all of them, yours is the first I want to comment on, because I love it. That's all I need to say.

I hope I can be as good...

The format may be an acquired taste.

Excellent work. 1978 is the first season I really remember so it brought back a flood of memories.

While the format made (for me) a tougher read, the information contained therein made it worth the effort.

It also brought back a flood of memories as I may have paid more attention to the 1978 season than any season before or since (of course, "before" consisted of 1976 and 1977...).

That's a comprehensive essay, gyb . I found the format to be a bit inaccessible, but the detail made up for it.

Very interesting to read and recalled a lot of stuff that I had long forgotten. Great job.

Deducted 1/2 point for mentioning Silvio Martinez and not putting expletives in front of his name like any good Cubs fan would!

steve - sorry about the PITA to reformat everything. glad it worked out and looks good.

others - thanks for the praise. the format was something i decided on after i figured many of you would be more knowledgeable in terms of remembering 1978, considering i wasn't born yet. so i decided to make it more detail-oriented, concentrating on the unique (though sometimes small) things that make baseball so great.

Interesting article. I was following baseball intently in 1978 but my primary focus was on the AL race where the Red Sox jumped out to a big lead, suffered an unbelievable array of injuries, fell behind the Yankees and then rallied to force a one game playoff. It was pretty much a foregone conclusion that the AL East winner was the best team in baseball that year, and so it proved to be.

There seemed to be a sense during the season that Pete Rose would wind up leaving the Reds

How could any wrong that he did compare with that?" - John Sears

I'd like to give this one more than 5 stars. 5 doesn't seem like enough to me.
