Question Francisco Campos - Sleeper?

Part of me says - he stayed in Mexico all these years for a reason..........the other part says, he'll sneak up on people in 2003, at least for the 1st half. Thoughts?

There have been other players that have come from the Mexican League and turned out to be decent Major Leaguers.

I have to ask...who is Francisco Campos?

He certainly snuck up on me because I have ZERO idea who he is. This proves I don't follow prospects as well as I used to...

A pitcher the Brewers signed out of the Mexican League last year - age 30 - he did good, at a short stay at AAA in 2002.

Jorge Orta, Erubiel Durazo, Teddy Higuera, Aurelio Lopez, Enrique Romo, and Fernando Valenzuela may have been the best ones. Still, not many.

Not as many players as you would think from a country that loves its baseball. Particularly when you compare it to the DR.

When we did the Pan-American stuff, this showed. Then again, the best Mexican player of all time might not've even played major league baseball, if Hector Espino really was that good.

Campos made 8 poor starts at Indianapolis. After returning to Mexico, he was again of the top pitchers in the league.

According to the Rotoworld:
"Francisco Campos went 10-2 with a 2.19 ERA in 14 starts in the Mexican Pacific League. Campos also started the first game of the playoffs for Mazatlan yesterday and matched Hermosillo's Elmer Dessens by giving up two runs in seven innings. Campos, picked up by the White Sox in the Triple-A phase of the Rule 5 draft last month, could be brought into major league camp to compete for a job in the spring. He'll probably end up in Triple-A if he stays with the organization."
