Edgardo Alfonzo Is A Giant......
From Lee's ATM report:
The Giants and free agent Edgardo Alfonzo have reportedly agreed to a 4 year, $26 million contract. Wonder how this impacts Kent? And, where are the Giants getting all this money? Don't they have a ballpark to pay for?

Perhaps the Giants intend to keep Alfonzo at 3B, having lost David Bell. Alternatively, they aren't planning or expecting to resign Kent.

Kent has to be feeling as if he is standing on quicksand. This deal really limits his chances of returning to the Giants and thus removes one of the bidders for his services.
The Giants, of course, are betting that Alfonzo will give them four years no worse than the last year he gave the Mets.

Means the same to Kent as before. Alfonzo plays third, and if Kent is there to play second, Durham goes to the outfield. Or Kent can play first.

Is there anyone still interested in Kent? The Giants are now saying the best he can hope from them is arbitration. Maybe he'll take it and try his free agent luck next year. One has to wonder if he's attitude didn't have something to do with the luke-warm response that he has received in the market.
Now that Giants have added another on-base type guy they need to get someone else who is going to knock some runs in. According to what I've been reading Sabaen is going to step up efforts to trade Russ Ortiz, but the can not get a guy with a big salary in return. They already are over their payroll target with this signing. I think this rules out both the rumored Giles and Drew deals.

I like the idea of Edgardo and Kent in the same infield. With Aurillia this could be a better lineup then last season.

Kent is running out of options. Maybe the Giants will get lucky and get Kent for a decent salary. Alfonzo, Aurillia, Kent are looking like the makings of a good infield. Add in Bonds and they are looking good.

This is probably a good move for the Giants. I think Durham, however, is mega-overrated. This deal appears to pretty much keep Alfonzo at 3B which may be better for the team than the player.

now that kent is going to houston, it seems like their top of the lineup will be:
Durham Aurilia Alfonzo Bonds over last year's: Lofton Aurilia Kent Bonds should bode well for alfonzo's numbers

The "Fonz" said one of the reasons for his decreased RBIs was batting behind those two greyhounds Piazza and Vaughn. I hope that's the case because with Durham and Aurilia ahead of him, there will be speedier (relatively) runners on now.

Pretty sure he hears it already - - most I hear calling the radio don't understand why he still has a job.
