Bonds's .842 BPA is the 2nd highest in major league history, behind Babe Ruth's .842, from 1919-21 (Ruth retained the record when the figures were computed to the 5th decimal place). Prior to Bonds, the NL record was .733, by Rogers Hornsby, from 1923-25. Bonds broke the record with .738, from 1992-94. Mark McGwire took the record away with .766, from 1997-99, and then he raised it to .773, from 1998-2000. Bonds reclaimed the record with .795, from 1999-2001, and then raised it to .842. LAST 4 YEARS (SINCE 1999) MAJORS--Barry Bonds, .815 AL--Manny Ramirez, .683 NL--Barry Bonds, .815 It was the 2nd consecutive time and 8th time Bonds led the majors and the 3rd consecutive time and the 11th time he led the NL.
