Bonds set the major league record, breaking the mark of .504, by Babe Ruth, from 1922-24. Bonds broke the NL record, breaking the mark of .487, by Rogers Hornsby, from 1923-25. It was the 2nd consecutive time Giambi led the AL. LAST 4 YEARS (SINCE 1999) MAJORS--Barry Bonds, .489 AL--Jason Giambi, .452 NL--Barry Bonds, .489 It was the 2nd consecutive time Bonds led the majors and the 2nd consecutive time and 9th time he led the NL. The only players with higher figures were Babe Ruth--3 times, record of .510, from 1920-23, and Ted Williams--twice. Bonds set the NL record, breaking the mark of .479, by Rogers Hornsby, from 1922-25. It was the 2nd consecutive time Giambi led the AL. It was the 6th time Bonds led the NL. He also led in 1991-93, 1995 and 2001.
