It was the 3rd time Thome led the AL. He also led in 1997 and 1999. It was the 8th time Bonds led the NL. He also led in 1992, 1994-97 and 2000-01.

Bonds and Babe Ruth (13 times--10 consecutive) are the only players to lead their leagues at least 10 times. Bonds set the major league record, breaking the record of 450, by Ted Williams, from 1947-49. Prior to Bonds, the NL record was 388, by Eddie Stanky, from 1945-47. Bonds broke the record with 416, from 1995-97, before raising it to 426 (1996-98) and then to 492. Giambi's 375 BB were the most in the AL since Harmon Killebrew's 387, from 1969-71. LAST 4 YEARS (SINCE 1999) MAJORS--Barry Bonds, 565 AL--Jason Giambi, 480 NL--Barry Bonds, 565 It was the 2nd consecutive time and the 7th time Bonds led the majors and the 2nd consecutive time and the 10th time he led the NL. Bonds became the 3rd player to lead his league at least 10 times, joining Babe Ruth (13 times--11 consecutive) and Mel Ott (11 times--5 consecutive).
