Default Marlins' Offseason: If it's broke, don't let Loria near it.

The Marlins were the middlemen in the big trade so far, handing off Mike Hampton to the Braves in return for shedding the contracts of Charles Johnson and Preston Wilson, picking up Juan Pierre and Tim Spooneybarger. With Castillo and Pierre taking up the top of the order, is this a return the the late 70s Pirates Moreno-Tavarez order? If so, where are Dave Parker and Willie Stargell?

A.J. Burnett, Brad Penny, and Josh Beckett just might be Mulder, Zito and Hudson of the south some day............but, Mike Lowell and Andy Fox are not exactly Tejada and Chavez.........

Marlins just may score less than 3.8 runs per game this year........

A lot of two hoppers to the shortstop where the runner is just OUT at first. My what a close play there....

So, the Marlins are basically down to Lowell and Derrek Lee in the middle of the order? I wouldn't want to be counting on Juan Encarnacion as an RBI guy. Oh, and Kevin Millar, but they've been trying to trade him. Maybe not now, with Wilson gone?

One thing the Marlins need is a return to form from Alex Gonzalez, who has regressed steadily. He has the talent, but he seems to be regressing. I'm sure that the organizational tumult over the past few years hasn't helped.

Power on the left end of the defensive spectrum can often be increased by developing platoon combinations at 1B or LF, even RF. It amazes me that the Marlins haven't tried this as a solution.

Try to replace as many positional players as possible. I don't think Pierre is the answer in CF, Encarcion is average at best.

Keep developing your young pitching. The pitching staff actually looks pretty decent. A good group of young starters and some options in the bullpen.

the Fish have added to their collection of mediocre outfielders by signing Todd Hollandsworth. There are whispers that this may lead to the trading of Kevin Millar. If that happens, their outfield (Hollandsworth, Pierre, Encarnacion) will rival the Mets' for worst in the majors

Considering they started last season with Millar, Preston Wilson, and Cliff Floyd, that's a long way to fall.
