If Tommy Maddox is out for even half the remaining games, P'burgh's in big trouble.
Do they expect crybaby Kordell (Dick Allen) Stewart to jump in and lead the team to a division title? Well, he COULD. He could also flop. I'm a Browns fan and I would like nothing better than to see the Browns win the division, but I'm a fan of Tommy Maddox too. He stepped in and led the team when the coach had the guts to pull crybaby and put him in. Half the team seemed ready to side with the Kordell Kamp and ruin the season but a funny thing happened: they won with Maddox. Then they won again, and again, and tied Atlanta. Now, they've lost and possibly lost their spark plug and Cowher's got an even tougher decision to make -- one that could mean the whole season. |

I'd guess Kordell has the inside track, but they also have Charlie Batch on the bench. If they want to keep involving their wide receivers as much as they have lately, I'd be tempted to put in Batch, who I think has a more accurate arm.
Maddox was the best story of the year, and it really sucked watching him go down yesterday. |

Do not be tempted by the QB that is Charlie Batch. It's too bad that Maddox got hurt... that was turning out to be a very good story. Maybe Kordell will play well and the Steelers can get something for him next year.

This is the type of situation where Kordell tends to excel. It may get him going.

I guess you've been soured from Batch because of your experience as a Lions' fan. I didn't think he was that bad during his Lions' tenure. Not that I think he's more talented than Kordell, but I don't think he makes the mistakes that Kordell does. It must be strange now being a Lions fan and actually having a QB who should be around a while. |

do you prefer consistent mediocrity or someone who stinks up the joint but has the potential to do something good?

Batch at his worst was not as bad as Maddox was in his first go around in the league. So there is an upside if you try him.

Now it is sounding like there is a possibility that Maddox may not be back this season and his career may be in jeopardy. Bummer.
Batch was Ok but he couldn't stay healthy and took a ton of bad sacks. |
