The Indianapolis Ice is trying to sign Manute Bol to a contract. Yes, all 7'7" inches of him. Is it that bad for the Ice in the CHL? I must say, this is probably the most assinine stunt I've ever seen... |

I worked for the Ice as the official scorer and still help when I can This is GREAT!
Minor league hockey is all about the sizzle - this is just a fun way to draw people to the park - just like minor league baseball does wacky things as well. Lay off these guys - I know the front office all personally. |

Somehow, it's hard to conjure up an image of Bol on skates.

I'm having this image of him being called for high-sticking just by being on the ice...there is no way they can make a stick that big or no way that Manute can bend that much. I mean, I only expect him out there for a few seconds, but I think he's still going to get whistled...
And if Indianapolis wanted to pull a stunt like that, couldn't they have just gotten some 60 year old hockey player or a midget to put on skates? |

LGO - He's not going to play. He will dress, but not play, and the CHL won't count this against the player limit.
A few years ago, with Gordie Howe's help, the Ice and the CHL gave a 25-year old with Muscular Dystrophy the chance to play goalie in a pro hockey game. He started in goal, and faced one shot from Chris George of the Huntsville Channel Cats, and he stopped the shot. This is different, but there's precidence to allow a non-player to "sign" a contract and suit up. |

...but the Fridge would make a good goalie, if he put on more weight.
I wonder -- is there a size limit for goalies? Seems to me you could find a guy who's about 5 feet wide with really long legs and arms and park his butt in front of the goal. Maybe Bol could simply stretch out in front of the goal and block everything that came his way with his long arms and legs. |

Manute's last stop before direct to video porn............back to cleaner thoughts: If Rizzuto was just a tall midget, maybe Randy Johnson is just a small giant? Probably lost the younger set with that one........... Anyone know where I was coming from?

It's kind of sad actually. He seems to be in deep financial trouble and probably would do anything for money. He's had a avery interesting life. maybe the Rockets can hire him to work with Yao Ming.

When you read the article you really develop a compassion for this man who has spent a small fortune trying to help his family in Sudan.
