Good discussion Gyb. I probably should have clarified the DH rules. If I have to take a Tiger DH I would take 1978 Rusty Staub (Le Grande Orange will be happy). At second glance you might be right about Norm Cash. That would allow Greenberg to move to left. That RF position is stacked for the Tigers. Lopez 1984 is a middle reliever. Hiller 73 is also a closer. I could move Hiller to the Closer role and drop Henneman and find another middle relief guy. The "Bird" is a sentimental choice because he is the one who got me interested in baseball. |

Okay, I know the Philadelphia Athletics are defunct, but what the heck!
C - Mickey Cochrane, 1930 1B - Jimmy Foxx, 1932 2B - Eddie Collins, 1914 3B - Frank Baker, 1912 SS - Chick Galloway, 1922 OF - Al Simmons, 1930 OF - Bob Johnson, 1934 OF - Walley Moses, 1937 SP - Lefty Grove, 1931 SP - Eddie Plank, 1912 SP - Chief Bender, 1910 SP - George Earnshaw, 1929 I apologize if I don't have one guy at each outfield spot. I haven't been able to find any breakdown on who played LF, who played CF and who played RF from those years. Since there was no DH during the existence of the Philadelphia A's (1901 - 1954), I won't choose one. Also, for the same reason, I'll go with a four-man starting rotation and no bullpen. |

From baseball-reference.com:
In 1930, Al Simmons was a LF; 129 games there, 7 in CF. Indian Bob Johnson was also a LF, in 1934. Wally Moses, in 1937, was a RF. Still short a center fielder. |

baseball-reference.com is soooooooo helpful in this exercise. It would allow just about any fan of any team to put a list together (hint, hint). |

Here is my attempt at the Pirates.
Catcher Jason Kendell - 1998 1st Willie Stargell - 1972 2nd Mazeroski- 1958 SS Wagner - 1901 3rd Pie Traynor - 1930 LF Ralph Kiner 1949 CF Brian Giles 2000 RF Roberto Clemente 1966 Bench Arky Vaughn - 1935 Manny Sanguillen - 1971 Bill Madlock 1982 Paul Waner - 1927 Dave Parker - 1978 Rabbit Maranville - 1922 SP Ed Morris - 1886 SP Doug Drabek - 1990 SP Deacon Phillipe - 1903 SP Jack Chesbro - 1902 SP John Candelaria - 1977 SU Jeff Robinson -1988 SU Enrique Romo -1979 SU Ramon Hernandez - 1973 CL Kent Tekulve 1978 CL Roy Face 1959 Just a note I almost put Ted Kluszewski as a sub for 1958, not because he had a good year but with him, Parker and Stargell the team would have been safe if there was a bench clearing brawl. |

Welcome rc3000... I think this is the first time we have crossed paths. Your Pirate team looks good. I have to believe that no one can come close to matching the Pirates in terms of SS greatness. |

Thanks, Sweaver! I would probably go with Simmons in LF for 1930, Bob Johnson in CF for 1938 and Wally Moses in RF for 1937. Looking up Baseball-Reference, I saw that Johnson did play CF in 1937. He also hit .313, .406 OBA, .552 SLG, 30 HR, 113 RBI and 114 R. |
