Default Trade talk: Cubs get Damian Miller

http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2002/1113/1460396.html
The cubs get someone who will defend better than girardi and hit better than hundley. He has been incredibly consistent over the past 4 seasons - about 100 games caught, 770 OPS

In return they gave up minor leaguers David Noyce (AA LH RP) and Gary Johnson (AA OF) - neither of them project as anything special.

The kicker - Miller got paid $2.7 million in 2002 and is eligible for arbitration.

The Cubbies do funny things. They spend money when most of us wouldn't and then they scrimp when they shouldn't.

Once again, the Cubs get someone who won't do much.

Whatever happened to Pat Cline?

Hundley had a .722 OPS for 2002 and Miller had a .775. Not much better if any.

Hundley had a RCAA of -7 and Miller had a -8. Both had an RCAP of 2.

I think we are just getting a younger player.

Hundley is a millstone. I'm not thrilled by Miller, but he can catch and throw a lot better than Hundley.

Joe G. should start another long career in baseball by managing a Rookie League team this year.

Sounds like a Duquette special. Baltimore also specializes in those type of deals. Smed, there will always be owners and GM who will get excited about the Hundleys of the baseball world. *deep breaths*

Call it whatever you want......I have a feeling this will be the oddest offseason in baseball history.

I think this isn't a bad trade for the Cubs. There is no way they could rely on Hundley to catch even a partial season. he's still a decent hitter as a C but I don't think he'll be able to spend enough time there to help the team. Miller will give the Cubs a good defensive catcher that can help their young pitchers.

I never said it was a bad trade. Just not much of an improvement. The more games he plays behind the plate the lower his batter average will be. He has never played in more than 123 games for a season.

good job by the Cubbies! They've got the division nearly locked up.

Miller is an average player. The Cubs could use a couple more of those. He's a step up, and they didn't give up anything but AAA roster filler to get him. Cubs fans, you should be happy!
