Good cripes. Mr. Knight - get over it - you classic bully! I really liked the way his teams played - and how well his teams did in the classroom (the most important part), but I'm almost ashamed to be from Indiana because of him. |

Oh come on. There must be plenty of other reasons to be ashamed to be from Indiana other than Bob Knight.

It fits Knight's M.O. He can't possibly be wrong, so someone else must be.
It's too bad you can't separate out his personality and leave the good stuff. But if you did, he probably wouldn't be as effective a coach. |

Considering Indiana paid off his contract and he later got a sweet job at Texas Tech it is going to be hard to convince anyone that he was really harmed.

Boom hit the nail on the head.
The fine folks of the fine state of Indiana are stuck paying him and a total buffoon of an AD that was just let go after 16 months - out of our tax dollars. Egads. That's why even though I got my MBA from Indiana, I do not donate to the IU Foundation. My tax dollars make my donation. And if Knight wins this suit, more of my tax dollars go to him. Yeesh. |

Since he still got paid, and he clearly had no trouble landing a new job, what possible merit could this case have?

Endorsements, public image, recruiting - there are lots of areas in which he will be able to demonstrate "harm". The key is being able to prove that IU's actions CAUSED the harm. |

I don't want to see Bobby Knight, the man who committed battery on a Puerto Rican Law Enforcement Officer, then took responsibility for his actions by never going to Puerto Rico again, benefit from this lawsuit.
However, why shouldn't Indiana University suffer? They tolerated boorish, and, in one instance, criminal behavior from a coach. When a man has a pending charge in one jurisdiction and refuses to return to that jurisdiction (as Knight refused to after battering the Puerto Rican officer) he is a FUGITIVE FROM JUSTICE! I remember Knight's responses to the incident at the time. As I recall, he basically that since it was a Puerto Rican police officer and happened in Puerto Rico, it wasn't that big a deal. He has never answered the charge, to my knowledge, and has never apoligized for his actions here. (I wonder if he's ever apologized for anything, even privately.) Knight is a man who could have been of great benefit to college sports. However, his total lack of humility, his arrogant, physical outbursts, bullying of others, etc., has negatated the good he has done in the areas of ensuring student-athletes are educated, and enforcing recruiting ethics. Perhaps no man in sports has worked harder to obscure what could have been a positive legacy as Bobby Knight has. But where was the outcry from the citizens of Indiana? Non-existant, by and large, or Knight would have been gone long ago. It was the same thing with Woody Hayes; he was a bully, yet Ohio State fans would excuse him; "Woody is Woody" said my late aunt, from Bellaire, Ohio. Nonsense! And nonsense! to those Hoosier fans who allowed this to occur and continuer, decade after decade, by their silence. |
