They got this one about as right as they did the AL ROY .

James, you and I get it. Our teams need to deal. You have what baseball writers call runner up Cy for ROY runner up. Our GM need to talk.....when our teams can figure that out.

Anyone here Pedro's comments about the voters? I realize the guy had a legitimate shot, but this does not help his future cause, and only serves to reinforce the opinion of him as a major narcissist.

yikes. why bother congratulating zito if you're just gonna complain about not getting it? what would the "right" reasons have been?

"That's why I missed that last start, so I could get ready for next year. As I said, to make sure that what I got is going to be there next year and maybe better. And that is what my goal is.''

It's a darn shame to know that guys like Zito, Johnson, Schilling, Maddux, Glavine, Petitte, etc. aren't going to be ready for next year, given that they actually pitched through their last start and even beyond it this year.

Hold on, favorite Yankee fans......don't let those pinstripes blind you!

Pedro Martinez is highly intelligent. In his country he was given the choice of being a doctor or a pitcher. He chose to be a pitcher. Language and culture can sometimes be a barrier.

Sometimes we don't treat the best of times well. Note Bonds, Martinez, Ramirez, Williams, and Mantel.

I was not that pleased about Pedro missing his last start. As a ticket holder saying goodbye to my guys for the last time for a season, I felt cheated. Pedro has his reasons. He is not lazy......and in a strange way, not all that selfish.

IF, Martinez is traded, it is because of economic reasons not for any other reasons.

hmrsf - - are there any red sox players that are not both highly intelligent and just misunderstood by the rest of the world outside of Fenway?

I have this mental picture of Pedro in an interrogation room, fully equipped with one uncomfortable chair, mirrored walls, and extremely bright lights. ... "Ok Mr. Martinez, what will it be? Doctor or pitcher? DOCTOR OR PITCHER MR. MARTINEZ. Decide! DECIDE NOW. ... Get him out of here. Next."

Well, Pedro should have an easy time winning next year, none of the competition will be ready when the season starts!

I am not sure why "highly intelligent" and "major narcissist" are mutually exclusive. In fact, it is my experience that they often go together, especially in doctors.

Or top-notch baseball pitchers.

I would have voted for Zito. But the seasons were so close between Zito, Martinez, and Lowe that any of the three could have won, and I wouldn't have complained. I am only surprised that Lowe did not get more votes.

In the interest of full disclosure, it must be noted that Sweaver is currently in the process of becoming a 'doctor'.

Man, I mispelled "hear." Back to 3rd Grade English for me.

Btw - criticizing the writers may not be the best way to get yourself a future award.

I feel bad for Lowe. Of the three, he's the least likely to come this close again, though he may surprise me.

However, I still think that the best pitcher in all of baseball was Pedro Martinez, and he gets my vote (when they give me one).
