Default Baker's Successor

Its sad to see such a rancorous ending to a magical season. Oh well, life goes on.

Who should succeed Dusty? Rags looked like a guy who had a good rapport with the team and has been mentioned in the local papers as a possibility. In addition, it looked like he had Dusty's ear. I like him and he must have some good baseball knowledge. He also fits the move towards younger former players (although not a catcher.) I actually liked Bud Black's insights while miked during the playoffs and he is a former Giant. What are your thoughts?

I suggest Jerry Manuel. He does wonders with aging superstars with attitude problems...

Maybe a better way to ask it is "Who should be Bonds' manager?"

pretty amazing, he's only had two managers his entire career.

And Leyland is still out there. What about a Charlie Manuel type?

Worst fear for Giants fans - Felipe Alou.

Pitching coaches just seem to suck as managers.

If it were 1925, Bonds would be named player-manager.

There's a rumor that Fregosi will be selected.

I wish Leyland would take the job, but I heard him say on ESPN radio that he's had his fill of managing.

Does Bonds get to select the manager?

If I'm posting here, who do you think I'm going to suggest? Ron Wotus "1-2-3" is the best guy you can hire that works for Bonds...

Watching CNN the other night, as Larry King was tossing to Aaron Brown, he commented on Dusty's departure and then said that he heard Bobby Valentine was going to be the next manager of the Giants. I chuckled - Dusty's detractors would be missing him dearly after a few month of Bobby V's antics.

HIs comment made me realize I had forgotten that Bobby V. is jobless. (managerially, that is...)

Al Pedrique

He and Bonds were teammates in Pittsburgh - - - and he's currently the AAA Mgr for the D'backs.

The local paper has tried to point up the Fregosi angle. Talk about retread, he may be the nicest, most competent guy, but jeez why not just bring back Dallas Green. Its the year 2002 and player relations are different now. Get someone who has been through free agency, understands the unique powers that players have, yet has a competent baseball mind, Bud Black, Willie Randolph. PLEASE!!!!

Fregosi wouldn't be my first pick, but he's an underrated manager.
He won a Pennant with a lousy 1993 Phillie team and he was the first manager to get the Angels to the postseason. He posted winning records with Toronto. He's not the greatest, but he's not the awful pick some make him out to be. He's definitely not Dave Bristol, Del Crandall, or one of those guys who have never won.

I want Willie Randolph. He deserves a shot at managing. The Giants could keep Righetti as pitching coach. He has done a great job with the pitching staff for the past three seasons. Ron Wotus would not be a bad choice either.
