Some pre-game thoughts:
1. If the Giants win...have you ever seen a team in the process of winning so obviously at the end of its line? Lofton, Sanders, Snow and Santiago on on their last legs. Kent and even Bonds are probably due to decline some. If they don't win, Bonds is going to have a hell of a time getting his ring, especially if Dusty leaves. 2. Percival and Nen each have to be ready to go 2 innings or more. And yes, Frankie has got to pitch, too. 3. The Angels will be back in the playoffs next year. 4. Pitching lines: Lackey 3 5 3 3 2 5 Livan 5 7 4 4 1 5 |

My predictions:
1) Neither starter will finish the 5th. 2) Washburn will appear at some point (and pitch better than he did last time). 3) Lofton will cost the Giants with a very bad play in center. 4) Bonds will not homer (he may not get to swing the bat all game). |

thoughts:
1. livan will NOT give up 3-5 runs. it will either be 0, 1, or 2, or 6 or more. 2. i really, REALLY want the giants to win. i didn't really realize it until last night, but i've been pulling for bonds for so long.... .... 3. but if the angels win i won't be nearly as upset as last year, and i'll be happy for em! |

there's no way any pitcher is going to give up 6 runs in this game unless it's a blowout early.

um...they were in the playoffs the next year and finished second, 3 out, the next year and won the pennant the year after that.
end of the line implies that "after this year, they're gonna suck." |

OK, the "next year" was 1981 where only the strike got them into the playoffs. They were an under .500 team in the 2nd half of 1981. The "won the pennant" was 1983 - - and, that was just about a totally different team than the 1980 Phillies. One can assume, just as you can assume they will "suck," that the 2005 Giants will be a totally different team (much like the 1983 Phillies) and therefore could be a contender.

Game over.
Congrats to the Angels fans. Condolences to the Giants fans. As a Yankee fan, I know exactly how you both feel. My personal post game notes - - 1. Seeing Eisner so happy after the Angels won ticks me a bit - - especially considering how much Disney wanted to get rid of the team the last few seasons. 2. Seeing the very upset son of Dusty Baker in the Giants dugout at the conclusion of the game was heartbreaking. Makes me wonder if having him there was the best thing in the world for him - - at the moment and in the long term.

I don't know whether to feel like I'm on top of the world or feel like Darren Lewis Baker...
On the one hand...the Angels are just a cool team, with the Rally Monkey, the Frankie Rodriguez that ISN'T a bust, 24 other blue collar guys, et. al, and it's great to see the Angels win it... On the other hand...I feel terrible at the fact that the Giants HAD IT. They HAD IT! Bonds was SO close to getting that ring. A lot of my other favorite players are Giants, THEY were so close to getting rings. Dusty is my favorite manager, HE was so close to getting a ring. And with one fell swoop, the Angels got it. Strangely enough, I'd been feeling sick through game 6 and 7, and although I'm feeling that mentally, I'm physically feeling better with an Angels victory still. Anyway, great series for both teams involved... But for the love of god, PLEASE give Barry Bonds a chance to play in another series...he did what he was supposed to do, he exorcised HIS demons, but so did the Angels. Everyone else let him down. Regardless...this is a nice ending for a season that had all the makings of the unhappiest of endings. Two other random thoughts: 1. Does this mean NetShrine gets updated Angel s for Avatars? ![]() 2. Will the Rally Monkey get voted a share? ![]() Last edited by LeGrandOrange : 10-27-2002 at 11:36 PM. |
