Post Greetings from the Big Apple...

It’s time for me to stop lurking and start posting, so I figured I’d better introduce myself…

A born and bred New Yorker, I grew up a Met fan - however, living a 15 minute subway ride from Yankee Stadium, I also follow the Yankees pretty closely. I’ve always lived in a city with both NL and AL teams (NY and LA) and couldn’t be without going to games in both leagues. (Not to mention that my favorite Mets seem to end up on the Yankees – Cone & Ventura - and if the rumored Hampton-to-the-Yankees trade happens I may have to convert officially.) I also play in an AL-only rotisserie league, so I seem to end up keeping a closer day-to-day eye on the AL than the NL.

I’ll admit, these days I am pretty frustrated with the Mets – as a team, not a very likeable bunch – and it’s not just the team, the organization as a whole has me annoyed – too much drama not enough competitive spirit.

Sometime in 2003 I will attend my 300th game in person since 1996. (Yes, I have kept count) To date, the zenith is Cone’s perfect game and the biggest heartbreaker is Game 6 of the ’99 NLCS in Atlanta. (yep, even more than the 2000 Game 5 WS loss, which was a foregone conclusion after Benitez’s second pitch in Game 1…)

I got here by way of Lee & Will and am glad to have found you all… I’ve been lurking for quite some time and the depth-of-knowledge, conversation and camaraderie here is tremendous.

Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!

I am so glad you started posting! I have a feeling that you will be a welcomed additioned to the shrine! 300 games in person! Wow! Looks like we started ML games about the same time, mabe I am about 300 games too. If you add in Minor league games it has to be over 500. Add in TV ........I shudder to think how many games are bouncing in my head.

Baseball.......is there anything better than that? Not too many things. Thanks again for joining and posting!

Am I doing my math right?
About 35 games a year?
Wow! Can I be you?

Nice to see you get post #1 out of the way.

I'll take this one. Yes, Moose, you do.

He's just so easy.

Wow, three months on the board and you kept your mouth shut! How do you do it?

Yes, you've got the math right. In 2000 I got this somewhat crazy idea to see if I could go to 100 ML games in a season - I made it to 118 - including the playoffs... My rule was I had to stay until the 7th inning stretch for the game to count, and there was one game in a cold, driving rain I left when it became official, as the weather was just unbearable. Fortunately the Mets and Yankees both were good that year, and road trips to Busch, Fenway, The Vet, QualComm and Dodger Stadium added to the fun.

sweaver: I've actually been reading the boards for close to 6 months - it took me 3 months to register and 3 months after that to make my first post - I have been practicing my listening skills.

What? I didn't quite hear that.

Careful, or Pathogan and BBApp will want you to go to 100 games this year, in hopes the Mets will make the Series again.

That's more games than almost 200 big league semi-regulars played that year!

"shortstop" - - are you Cal Ripken?
