Thumbs up FOX W.S. Coverage - Outside The Booth

Forgetting the announcing............and forgetting the FOX ads all over the place................

I think that FOX has done an excellent job with the coverage of the games so far.

The play Kennedy made last night at 2B on the steal. The replay of Fullmer stealing the other night where he was out but called safe. The replay of Lofton diving and stopping the ball with his throwing hand. And, of course, the shot of Bonds HR in the 9th with the transition to Salmon mouthing 'that's the farthest I've see one hit' was just Emmy Awarding winning stuff, IMHO.

Anyone else notice anything?

Fox has definitely improved their camera work. Used to be pretty bad, now it's pretty good.

True enough, but it is rather impossible to forget the announcing and endless shameless plugs.....

Fox's plugging their shows has been annoying through the playoffs. 24 was one of my favorite shows last year, but I'm getting sick of the commercials.

The plugs don't bother me too much - although the 'cut to cast of Girls' Club' yesterday was a little much. Anything that brings money into baseball is good, and FOX pays so much for it that they're entitled to put all the product placement they want in the show.

Heck, if they want to replace the World Series on the sides of the hats with a FOX , I'm okay with that.

What FOX has going for them in this coverage is an obscene number of cameras with extremely good framerates, so we get detailed slo-motion pictures from all sorts of cameras and angles that are otherwise not possible.

From the Cleveland Plain Dealer this morning...
The "Worthy of His Glowing Press Clippings" Award:
To Joe Buck, World Series play-by-play voice for FOX. Buck is as smooth as TV baseball announcers come. And Buck deserves credit for not strangling Tim McCarver, his booth mate.

No, Buck would deserve credit if he did strangle McCarver.

I used to think that too, but, the Naked Gun was on Starz the other day, and along with Curt Gowdy, Jim Palmer, Mel Allen, Dick Enberg, Dick Vitale, and Dr. Joyce Brothers, Tim McCarver did a great job.

My respect was restored.

I'm waiting for DisneyABCESPN to take over the series and playoffs.
Fox is killing me. At least ESPN has a witty cast of commentators and announcers(comparitively).
Any more shots of people that haven't a clue what's going on and I'm going to blow a gasket.
Gray Davis????Who the hell cares. Girls club?? What the???
And please, dear god, no more of that tenor dude milking his 15 minutes of fame for all it's worth. Give me Huey Lewis and the News or some other act that actually knows baseball singing the anthem.
Any network has the technology to get those closeups and slo-mos. McCarver must be stopped .

This thread is about camera work and direction. Please, we have enough threads on the booth work and the ads issue. Thanks!

Sure thing, boss -

Re: FOX and camera work - FOX does the same good technical job with football - every FOX game is a better production than every CBS, ESPN, or Monday Night Football Game.

By the same token, their coverage of baseball is improving by each game.
