I think HWCBN has proven he's just an idiot keeping his job due to past performance.

As much as HWCNBN doesn't get, Dusty Baker gets it.

Ok guys - it's HWCBN, not HWCNBN. Cannot is one word. Smed'll give you an honorific of your own if you 'cannot' keep his lexicon straight.

JamesI, I had the exact same thoughts. What is going on in that brain of his?

Dusty's comments were great. I loved the one about the confrontation. "We're not out here playing jacks. Know what I'm saying?"

If you can hear a rattling sound, that's me rapidly shaking my head, trying to clear it....

Look, Smed, HWCBN doesn't think BB's and HR's are scientific ball, either.

Remember, 50% or more of what LaRussa says is designed to get inside someone's head. Mind games are what he does. Those "plate discipline" comments were an attempt to get inside Bonds' head. Obviously, it didn't work.

HWCBN might have been right about this two years ago, when pitchers actually made an attempt to get the ball near the plate. But at this point there's not much chance of Bonds getting anything close to hittable in a key moment. It's not like he goes up there looking for a walk.

i don't even get the question -- why ask who he'd want in 22-year old versions of bonds, musial or williams -- bonds wasn't near the player at 22 he is now...maybe I'm stupid, but I think the question is stupid.

I like Dusty - no one gets in my head but my daddy...didn't his dad throw him off two teams when he was young?

bonds and williams are/were not nearly the hitters that a free swinger like rob deer is. talk about an expanded zone.

I still don't think there's any reasoning to expanding the zone you're comfortable with so you can make more outs.

I've got a feeling that all LaRussa wanted was for the thought to cross Barry's mind that he took too many pitches.

He's not THAT stupid.

Is he?
