Now that Sweet Lou is out - who gets the job and how will it impact the M's?

I hope Pinella's happy closer to home, because he's going to lead a much worse team next year.
If the M's don't get someone who can hold that team together, the M's are going to slip out of playoff contention. |

If he takes the Mets job, he's got a pretty shot at being labeled a genius when they miraculously return to contention on a $100+ payroll.

If Piniella leaves...first of all I'll be sad, but if he leaves...I'm going to suggest a Giant take his job. Yes, that's right, I want Ron Wotus managing the club.
![]() I don't want Baker, Baker shouldn't be leaving San Fran, but I want his apprentice. |

the first thing I thought of was Bobby V's connection to Ichiro. But what do you mean by good for team relations Moose? I think Valentine would actually be good there -- a lot of talent, good group of guys, nice GM, great fans and not a lot of media compared to NY... I say Gillick convinces Tom Kelly to take a team with this much to offer... good move by Seattle to release Lou though -- once he expressed an interest, he did need to go. I hope Lou does end up in NY -- I love him and he will be just as colorful, if not moreso than Bobby V! ![]()

So does Jim Colborn (Dodgers pitching coach), and Ken Macha, I think. Glenn Hoffman, maybe? Right now it's anyone's guess.

Does Tom Kelly want to manage again or is his name just being thrown out for the sake of it being thrown out?

Tom Kelly, I think, is happy at what he's doing now.
I think the M's may go to Valentine (shudder....) |

I really like the idea of bobby V. I think the team needs to make a big push and he's the guy to do it. of course within two years the whole team will hate him and he will have to go but for now he would be my guy. part of this is that i suspect the M's have gotten a bit soft under Lou. A bunch of fan friendly nice guys who lack the fire you need to win the big ones. the team fell apart in august because they failed to make a big trade. thats a mental failing and I lay that at lou's feet. He is a good manager and I wish him luck wherever he goes but its time for a change. |

My hatred of Valentine is well known.
That said, Valentine probably fits this team well. I still want Wotus, damn it, but I guess that if Valentine is hired here, then I won't complain...though I'll cringe. ![]() |

I hear Tony Muser's available. Or Rex Hudler. Hiring an Angels color man worked ok for the Yankees. Bobby V might be ok though.

I wonder if Showalter is having second thoughts now about taking the Rangers job?
