Default Yes, I'm a Red Sox fan.

Don't let the Kansas City address fool you - I've live here more than 20 of my 34 years but I'm really a transplanted chowdahead. I even named my son after the most famous Sox to share my last name, Sammy White. Of course, me and Sammy shared a birthday, so it was a karma thing that my wife thankfully understood. Boston born, Boston bred, and when I die...the Sox still won't have a title.

Seriously, a few tidbits about me: I'm a GE weenie who gets to play with web sites as part of my job, so I can't complain. In my spare time I publish my own site about baseball. Feel free to check it out.Lost in Left Field

At the moment my pet project is getting Jim Rice elected to the Hall of Fame, and not just because he was my favorite player as a kid. I've even got a book in the works with McFarland Publishers on that subject, and I've published a ton of things on the Baseball Online Library. If any of you are familiar with the Jim Rice For The Hall of Fame web site, two of the articles it links to are mine from the BOL.

Anyway, glad to be a member.

Welcome.

I'd love to join you in the fight for Rice, however, I wield the crowbar in the HOF. Poke around history, and I think we've discussed Rice, Evans, Murphy, Parker, et. al. there.

Welcome aboard. Be sure to check out the "Who's YOUR favorite team?" thread (probably it's over in "Just Shooting It").

It's always good to hear from far flung members of Red Sox Nation.

well, i encourage you to post early and often. but don't think you'll ever convince me that Rice was a HOF'er. maybe if the guy ever took a walk, geesh.

Welcome Jim Ed!

Regardless of his chances for the HOF, Jim Ed was a great ballplayer. I still remember the checked-swing broken bat.

You'll find some of the most intelligent and understanding Red Sox fans on this board. Unfortunately, the Yanqui fans out-number us, but they can never take our freedom!!!

You only say that because he's never bitten you.

Welcome. You will enjoy our annual balloting for the HoF at the end of the year. Rice will get votes but not enough.

Any intelligent arguments against Rice are welcome (more food for my book), but if I hear one more BBWAA "expert" justify his decision to bypass Rice by claiming that he couldn play defense, my head will explode. It simply ain't so. Just ask Bill James. He absolutely HATES Rice and still graded him out as the defensive equal of Yaz, and actually better than Barry Bonds.

Wait a minute...what am I thinking? BBWAA voters don't read Bill James. In most cases, I don't think they even know he exists. I must have been delusional there for a moment.

They're in there. I think a separate thread was made for Rice, or one mentioned him prominently.

I said no, but I'm a tough customer....
