I always thought dogpiles were pretty stupid, but I haven't played through an 162 game season, been threatened with contraction, and written off by nearly every baseball analyst.

Equal parts bad luck and stupidity. One the one hand, I've yet to see ANY team that doesn't react that way, and in the case of the Twins, they had extra reason to celebrate joyously. On the other hand, I think spitball's wife summed it up: "Someone is going to get hurt". It's amazing that it hasn't happened before.

At least it wasn't Hunter.

This kind of injury was inevitable the way they celebrate after a series. The Twins should be thankful it wasn't Hunter, Radke, Milton, Reed, Jones.

stupid - there are plenty of ways to celebrate in which there is little or no injury risk.

that aside, i was part of our h.s. softball team dogpiles in both our back-to-back championship seasons, so what does that say?

As a child, I used to pretend I was in the dogpiles. I kind of like them.

I was in Columbus, GA, when the Indianapolis Ice won the CHL title in 2000. In hockey, the don't have the true "dogpiles" but since I worked as a scorer for the team and drove down there I was invited to the on-ice celebration and the locker room celebration. I sense what the Twins players were going through, because the emotion on some of the players winning a championship in a AA hockey league made a vivid impression on me.

bad luck I think -- many times guys could have been hurt in those things before -- had to have someone hurt before people started being more careful -- I'm sure it was in the Giants minds last night...

Bad luck, that sooner or later was going to happen to some team.

It happened in 1960 when Vern Law's ankle was twisted during the N.L. pennant winning celebration.
