Good going Boomer, it was Sam Rice and about the letter.
In the 3rd gm of the 1925 World Series, Rice leaped in the stand robbing Earl Smith from a HR. Coming out of the stands, Rice shows the ump the ball and he signal the out. Many people question that call. Rice would say one way or the other, he left a letter with Cooperstown and told them not to open it until his death. When the time came it said the following. Of the catch in 1925 serie "At no time did I lose possession of the ball.
