Default Joe Buck and (im)partiality

In the Tim McCarver thread, there was a mention made about basically whether or not Joe Buck could seem happy for the Giants in spite of the fact he grew up as a Cardinals man before becoming a network man.

In my opinion, Joe Buck tries very hard...perhaps even too hard...not to be a homer. I've noticed in several FOX telecasts involving the Cardinals, Buck being borderline partial against the Cardinals. I'm certain that it is an effort on his part not to be labeled a biased broadcaster, and due to that it is in many respects admirable, but I almost wonder if he takes it too far on occasion. I'd like to know if I'm alone or if any of you have opinions or observations about this.

I don't think Buck has been a problem. He handled the Cardinals series well. I would expect he personally wanted them to win, but he didn't come across as biased.

Next to McCarver Buck sounded like one of the giants of the broadcasting profession.

i made the comment, and i'm in full agreement with what you wrote... except that I don't think he crosses the line.

im sure, at times (especially this year), it can be tough to be professional, but i think he's a class guy and does a good job of keeping impartial.

Joe Buck may do his best to not appear partial to St. Louis, but I guarantee you that St. Louis is partial to Joe Buck.

Yeah...I don't know...maybe it just seemed to me like he was trying too hard because I expect him to root for the Cardinals, having grown up listening to him on Channel 11, but in any case, I like him a lot and think he's among the best.

Throwback, I have to agree with you on this one. I found myself wondering quite a few times during the NLCS if this was really Joe Buck making those comments. Many here probably don't get these remarks because they don't have the opportunity to catch him during his stints as the play by play man for Fox Sports MidWest's Cardinals telecasts during the season. I was on a few occassions even disgusted with both Buck and McCarver to the point that I muted the TV. McCarver by the way is one of the worst analyst's around, and by no means is he a "homer". The way he feels about what the Cardinals did to him when they got rid of him is well known, and he still carries that grudge.
