Default Bobby V for giants manager?

amid reports of Dusty baker wanting to leave SF and being courted by the mets it crossed my mind: if he does leave might Bobby V . be the perfect guy to take over the giants?

it sounds strange but think about this. the giants story over the baker years is a good team with talent and good records managed by a well liked and respected guy, that is unable to make the next step to contending for a world championship. sounds like its time for a high pressure manager to kick some people around and light a fire under everybody. The team woudl fall apart within two years but i bet you would win a WS or at least appear in a ws.

I dont like the billy martins, leo durocher's or bobby V's of the world . Id rather have walter alston. But there is a time and a place for this sort of guy.

is it just me or is bobby V. the charlie Dressen of this era? take a look. its an intereting match. as players, managers and people.

The Giants should never allow Baker to leave. If he does, Bobby V might do the job for them. They have the kind of team he does well with. (assuming Kents stays)

This is the point. All else is irrelevant.

One of my favorite comments by Bill James was on Dressen: "He had one foot in the Hall of Fame and one on a banana peel. Unfortunately, all the weight went on the banana peel."

Bobby V, never in a Giants uniform. He's too smug and I'm sure Bonds would stuff him in one of his auxilary lockers. The more probable scenario would be if Baker leaves (please no) then Righetti steps up with a seasoned bench coach (Roger Craig?, Zimmer available?, Fregosi?) and Bobby Bonds as hitting instructor.

But how can they stop him? He's like a free agent, if the guy wants to go to another team, I don't see how the Giants can thwart that from happening.

But if I was Baker, I'd think very carefully about what those teams have to offer. He doesn't like heavy media criticism, so that rules out the Mets. He also doesn't like losing, so that rules out the Cubs & most of the other teams with openings. Baker's really in the catbird seat right now, and I think he'll realize that in due time.

Again, Bobby V shouldn't be considered for any current managerial openings and with any luck, won't end up on TV either, tho I fear with Buck leaving, he could be the type to think he's Howard Cosell.

V, if he returns to baseball, will need to take a couple years off and hope that the venom he threw at Steve Phillips didn't stick too much to him. Few GMs are going to hire a guy that blasted his boss so much.
