1) Yesterday's scores--
Twins 7, Angels 5 (Twins lead series, 1-0) Yankees 8, Angels 5 (Yankees lead series, 1-0) Diamondbacks 12, Cardinals 2 (Diamondbacks lead series, 1-0) 2) Today's schedule-- Braves (Tom Glavine) at Giants (Russ Ortiz), 1:00 A's (Mark Mulder) at Twins (Joe Mays), 4:00 Angels (Kevin Appier) at Yankees (Andy Pettitte), 8:00 3) Yesterday's HR-- Troy Glaus--2 Corey Koskie Doug Mientkiewicz Derek Jeter Jason Giambi Rondell White Bernie Williams Jim Edmonds Scott Rolen 4) 11) Greg Maddux has a blister on his hand and will be pushed back from starting Game 2 to Game 3. Kevin Millwood will move up a spot in the rotation. This move means Maddux wouldn't be able to pitch a deciding Game 5. After 3.00 ERA/46 RSAA and 3.05 ERA/35 RSAA seasons, Maddux had a 2.62 ERA/33 RSAA in 34 starts. He has a 2.83 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.04, and 535 RSAA in 539 games. This was the 10th time in the past 11 years that Johnson had at least 30 RSAA. Most seasons with 30+ RCAA-- Code:
5) The Mets fired MGR Bobby Valentine. 6) The Rangers fired MGR Jerry Narron. 7) The Brewers fired MGR Jerry Royster this morning. 8) The BlueJays are on the verge of giving GM J.P. Ricciardi a new 5 year contract. 9) The Justice award goes to Angels MGR Mike Scioscia, who got exactly what he deserved--a loss. With runners on 1st and 2nd, 2 outs in the 8th and the Angels clinging to a 1 run lead, the Yankees best hitter at the plate (Jason Giambi), there was absolutely no question the game was on the line. Where's Troy Percival, his best reliever? He wasn't where he should have been. He should been on the mound. But, who cares if the game's on the line? Obviously Scioscia didn't. Scioscia put Percival's label of show up in the 9th inning pitcher over that trivial matter of trying to win the game. So, what happens? Giambi singles to tie the game. Bernie Williams homers and the Yankees have a 3 run lead. When the game's on the line and you're managing for the sake of a manager manipulated stat, rather than the victory, you deserve to lose. After one team chooses to put a stat over trying to win, the other team gets a comfortable lead, with the game not needing to be saved (in the real meaning of the word) and their pitcher gets a stat. (NOTE--The odds are good this scene will repeat itself before the postseason ends. When it happens, it's lack of mention in the ATM reports will be a result of me not wanting to repeat the rant in such short a short period of time and won't be giving a free pass to the manager.) 10) The Padres granted the Tigers permission to interview Alan Trammell for their MGR job. Meanwhile, the Tigers will interview Yankees 3B coach Willie Randolph today. 11) A's utilityman Olmedo Saenz ruptured his right Achilles tendon yesterday. After 15 RCAA/.915 OPS and -13 RCAA/.675 OPS seasons, Saenz hit .468 SLG, .354 OBA, .822 OPS, 4 RCAA in 68 games. He has a .795 career OPS, compared to his league average of .775, and 10 RCAA in 352 games. 12) The Cardinals left P Woody Williams off the Division Series roster, due to a sore muscle in his left side. Andy Benes will replace him in the rotation and will start the 3rd game, while Garrett Stephenson took Williams's spot on the roster. After 3.75 ERA/9 RSAA and 4.05 ERA/1 RSAA seasons, Williams had a 2.53 ERA/16 RSAA in 17 starts in an injury plagued season. He has a 4.07 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.55, and 46 RSAA in 273 games. 13) The Expos activated P Troy Mattes from the 60 day DL and designated him for assignment. Mattes missed the whole season after shoulder surgery. 14) The Cubs released P Jesus Sanchez. After 5.34 ERA/-18 RSAA and 4.74 ERA/-4 RSAA seasons with the Marlins, Sanchez had a 12.96 ERA/-8 RSAA in 8 games. He has a 5.20 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.45, and -53 RSAA in 150 games. 15) BlueJays P Luke Prokopec is expected to miss the entire 2003 season. He had surgery in August on a torn labrum. After a 4.88 ERA/-16 RSAA as a 23 year old rookie with the Dodgers in 2001 (he also pitched in 5 games in 2000), Prokopec struggled during a 6.78 ERA/-19 RSAA season in 22 games (12 starts). 16) Yankees pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre has reportedly decided to change his mind on retirement. He's done that before. This is about the 3rd time during his tenure as pitching coach that he was going to retire at the end of the season and he's decided not to. Meanwhile, bench coach Don Zimmer has also reportedly decided to change his mind and won't be retiring. But, I missed have missed it when he decided he was planning on retiring again. 17) The Orioles released Ps Chris Brock and Yorkis Perez, INF Luis Lopez and C Raul Casanova and placed P Calvin Maduro on outright waivers, which removes him from the 40 man roster. After 4.34 ERA/4 RSAA and 4.13 ERA/1 RSAA seasons with the Phillies, Brock had a 4.70 ERA/-2 RSAA in 22 games. He has a 4.81 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.50, and -18 RSAA in 148 games. After 3.94 ERA/3 RSAA and 5.16 ERA/0 RSAA with the Phillies and Astros in 1999-2000, Perez was out of the majors in 2001 and had a 3.29 ERA/3 RSAA in 23 games. He has a 4.44 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.31, and 0 RSAA in 337 games. After -6 RCAA/.732 OPS and -7 RCAA/.714 OPS seasons, Lopez hit .299 SLG, .230 OBA, .529 OPS, -10 RCAA in 58 games (first 6 with the Brewers). He has a .646 career OPS, compared to his league average of .773, and -77 RCAA in 648 games. After -6 RCAA/.738 OPS and -1 RCAA/.787 OPS seasons, Casanova hit .227 SLG, .270 OBA, .497 OPS, -8 RCAA in 33 games (first 31 with the Brewers). He has a .670 career OPS, compared to his league average of .780, and -45 RCAA in 332 games. After 9.64 ERA/-13 RSAA and 4.23 ERA/-1 RSAA seasons, Maduro had a 5.56 ERA/-7 RSAA in 12 games (10 starts). He has a 5.78 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.43, and -44 RSAA in 68 games. 18) Astros RF Richard Hidalgo's agent met with GM Gerry Hunsicker and asked for a trade. According to the Houston Chronicle, "It has been no secret Hidalgo is on the trade market, but Hunsicker won't be backed into a desperate situation." According to Hunsicker, "This team needs Richard. Barring unforeseen circumstances, Richard will be in our lineup on opening day as an every-day player." After 46 RCAA/1.028 OPS and 0 RCAA/.811 OPS seasons, Hidalgo hit .415 SLG, .319 OBA, .734 OPS, -11 RCAA in 614 games. He has a .845 career OPS, compared to his league average of .782, and 35 RCAA in 614 games.

That Diamondbacks-Cardinals score is definitely an error of stupidity award magnitude.
Also, the Giants-Braves game is in Atlanta.

It's a lot easier to be an editor than a writer! (BTW, at the end of #4, you also said "Johnson" when you meant "Maddux". ;-) )
