Default Student-athletes: 60% graduation rate in 6 years

http://espn.go.com/ncaa/news/2002/0926/1437078.html
apparently, this is an all-time high ever since they started tracking this 18 yrs ago. this is 2% higher than the rate for the general population!!!
"highlights:"
-male athletes have a 54% graduation rate and female ones 69%.
-division I black males 43%, females 60%
-male basketball players 36% (black 28%, white 51%)
-female basketball players 65% (black 59%, white 69%)
-division I football players 52%

it's amazing to me how skewed these figures are...

Of course, this doesn't take into account transfers or people who drop out of school, so this is more of a graduation and retention measure. Still important to see, though.

Is it still true that Cincinnati has not had a basketball player graduate in like 10 years?

let's put it this way:

[players slapped by bob huggins] / [players graduating] is undefined

The Bearcats last season had a cumulative GPA of over 2.5, and 3 of their freshmen players were over 3.0. UC actually won the Conference USA academic award this year, for whatever that's worth.

They still have that zero-grad rate, but that doesn't count any jucos or transfers from other schools.

Even with all that, it's still a pretty sad situation down here, and hopefully it gets better.

And my alma mater (WVU) wanted to hire Huggins as their new coach. Whew.
