Default Another Opening, Another Show

If any of you have been wondering about my reduced presence on this board recently, part of it is because of the startup of the school year, as I am both teaching fulltime and taking classes parttime, and also because I have been in rehearsal for a musical, which opened tonight.

I am in the cast of "Riversong," performed at the Mason-Dixon Festival in Morgantown, WV, at an outdoor amphitheater. I am playing the part of surveyor Charles Mason, and I open the show in song. The story is of an imagined meeting between Mason and Dixon, and early settlers of the Morgantown area.

I am not the star, but it's a featured part in the ensemble. My two oldest kids are in the cast also, as they were last year.

First show was tonight, with shows also Saturday and Sunday evening. We'll try to "break a leg!"

Do you get to wear the bucket hat, or at least those spiffy NetShrine boxers, as part of your attire?

That is so cool man. Having your kids in the show with you is icing on the cake. Have fun.
I'm just glad it isn't Riverdance

The last time I treaded the boards was my sophomore year in College. I was always into theater, but other interests got in the way, and I never got the bug back.

SWeaver does break one rule of show business - he doesn't smoke! Almost every community theater person I met in the day smoked like a chimney....or Marge Schott.

I guess if you can't take your kids to Comiskey to beat up first base coaches, this is the next best thing. I've always enjoyed live performances of any kind and would love to see your show. Best of luck to you.

Yes, not just live theater, but live outdoor theater! On Friday, opening night, as Mason (I) and Dixon are doing Scene 1, a helicopter circles the waterfront park. Three times. Chances are, the audience could barely hear us!

Live theater, you never know what will happen.

My costume is properly colonial, with knee breeches, knee-high stockings, a vest and frock coat, and three-corner hat.

My hat, it has three corners, three corners has my hat.....

Does this not have Waiting for Guffman written all over it?

I think breeches need to come back in style...breeches and frock coats.

Are you NUTS? I don't know about Indy, but if I'd been wearing a frock coat, I'd have simply melted and died sometime in mid-August.

BTW - it's neat-o that you're doing this Sweaver. That right-brain part of me never totally developed and I've never had the slightest urge to thespianize. Write - maybe, act - no chance. How cool that your brain is balanced.

Not in the summer...geez.

Anyway, if that physics thing doesn't work - there's always dinner theater!
