Default Oh my Manny!!

Hit grand slam number 15 tonight. Lou Gehrig holds the record at 23. Could Manny top that?

He's got 8 guys to pass before Lou Gehrig, but it's certainly possible.

Ventura had 15 coming into the season.

He hit his 16th off Tanyon Sturtze on July 28th.

Thank you for the correction. Ramirez does have 1 slam less than Ventura but is 5 years younger also.

Manny is 30 year old so of course he could break Gehrig's record. He's a great hitter, hitting cleanup. He's hit 15 in 8 1/2 years, I don't see what would be so difficult about hitting 9 more in, say...10 years.
He would obviously be good enough to still play at age 40 if he wanted to.

VNV- so glad you see it too.

While others want to comment on the players that Manny has to pass (all but one retired) no one is saying wow, 8 1/2 years, 15 slams!

No knocks on Ventura. 16 slams is 16 slams! Out of the 2 players Ramirez and Ventura, who has the best chance of breaking Gehrig's record? That is what the thread was about is all.

I don't know. Grand Slam opprotunities aren't too common. But if anyone now can do it, it's probably Manny. My guess, Murray is safe in second on this list.

I'd be interested to see stats with bases loaded for all the guys. I don't know if they exist for Gehrig's era.

Seems like this record is a whole lot easier nowadays.

He absolutely can do it, but a lot will depend on the players on the team batting in front of him. So far in his career he has had decent OBP guys in front of him.

I think that having a 100 rbi guy hitting in front of him will decrease the opportunities.

Any player who would approach this record would be having big OBP guys ahead of him. This is a record that depends on others, as well as yourself. That shouldn't detract from Manny's record, if he gets it.

[Lee Sinins] Grand Slams are simply a fluke stat and shouldn't even be discussed by reasonable people on an intelligent baseball site. [/LS] So there.

Fluke stat or not, there's just something gorgeous about watching Manny's HR swing with bases juiced.

I hope he does it. I think he's the better RBI man than Ventura year-in, year-out.
