Default Mondessi a Yankee

traded for Scott Wigens (sp) a L handed pitching prospect from Norwich.

No link just report from telecasters of the NESN game.

Default Mondesi a Yankee

Raul Mondesi was scratched from the jays lineup tonight and has been traded to the Yankees for a AA reliever. It seems the Yankees are taking on his whole salary for this year and next year.

Must be nice to be able to pay so much for those little luxuries.

I will miss watching the occasional howitzer coming in from right-field, but I have to say thats about it.

I think Mondesi is one of the most overrated players of the last 8 years. He's never been a superstar, not even in his best year. He's an improved version of Mike Marshall, who can provide some RF defense, but that's about it. Only the Yankees could take a chance like this. It may help a little, but not a lot.

I predict that Mondesi will not adjust to Yankee Stadium, and will become another guy hitting .265 with 22 HRs and 90 RBIs. Not enough for the $$$ he makes and the hype he has received in the past.

JP Ricciardi should earn a $500K bonus for this. Regardless of whether it helps the Yankees, it's definitely a good thing for the Jays.

I bet they said that about David Justice too.

Sometimes there is magic in those stripes. Time will tell.

BTW, what's the source on the fact that the Yankees are taking on the whole salary? That's pretty hard to believe.

That is being reported by the telecasters at NESN. The story is breaking out of Boston because that is where the Jays are playing.

The NESN sports announcers were tipped by the mess on the line up card.

J. P. Richardi (sp) is a Worcester native. They hope to get him on. I will update.

BTW Clark 2-2 single and double 2 RBI

I wonder if Torre can straighten Mondesi out. He has been a problem for two clubs now. They were ready to run him out of LA on a rail when they traded him. Now he acts like a jerk in Toronto and gets shipped to New York. Aside from having a good arm he's not that great a player.

He's gonna get a dose of reality in New York. If he slacks as is his modus operandi he won't have any excuses.
He ain't no Paul Oneill.

Prediction - "Raw Drool, Man Did You See?" will make Torre long for the days of Ruben Sierra.

This is a sad day for this Yankee fan. We was hosed Tommy, we was hosed!

Mondesi is an overpaid whiner who doesn't hustle, doesn't improve himself by working hard, relies on his natural talent, is not an improvement (statistically) over Spencer, Vander Wal and White, kills any chance of a Cliff Floyd deal, has been run out 2 cities (and counting), makes an obscene $11 mil this year and $13 mil next year and likes to have the spotlight on Raul Mondesi.

I LOVE this deal...nice work by Cashman, Michael, etc. Bring back the 80's era Yanquis!

This deal will make all you folks who voted for Cashman as best GM reconsider your vote.

J.P was in the booth on the Sportsnet (Canada) coverage of the game and said the Yankees have basically picked it all up.

.....and apparently Cashman approached Ricciardi!

or at least that is JP's story
