Default Help wanted: Fantasy football league

Hi:

I agreed to rejoin my old fantasy football league after a three-year hiatus. In anticipation of a strike, I was considering devoting more energy to football this year.

The problem is I really have no idea here. Was considering a super trio of Barry Sanders, Steve Young and Michael Irvin as my top three picks. Have been advised that this is probably not a good idea.

Any ideas on potential sleeper picks would be appreciated. I'm liking Jeremy Shockey quite a bit.

Thanks.

Clinton Portis is a good rookie pick, if some of the proven guys are already off the board. He's got the starting job easy over Gary and Anderson.

If Warrick Dunn doesn't get it done early, then T.J. Duckett could be a good guy to have around.

Shockey is a guy I really like, too. I just hope the Giants utilize him.

Shockey gets the press - Daniel Graham will have the better season. He'll be the #1 target in the red zone for the Pats.

Jamal Lewis went very late in my draft - if his knee holds up, he'll be a great pick.

I also like Larry Centers, FB from BUF. Bledsoe likes to dump it to the backs, and Centers can do some things.

Thanks.

I'm hoping to pick somewhere in the middle of the first round and take McNabb -- assuming Warner goes No. 2 and Manning-Garcia somewhere in the top 6-7 picks.

If you can grab McNabb, I think you've got a great pick. He's a fantasy stud, and he'll only get better as the players around him improve.

I'd rank McNabb over Garcia, maybe over Manning. I'm suspect of Peyton's durability.

Do not worry about Manning. Repeat. Do not worry about Manning. The line is fine, they have healthy receivers. They'll be OK.

Take a flyer on Qadry Ismail....

Man, I was gonna say pick Holmes. He's going to blow up this year....I don't really know how fantasy leagues work because I've never played in one. But do you get to pick O line as well? Or is it just numbers positions?( QB,WR,RB,etc.)

In most fantasy leagues you do not pick O lineman. You always pick the skill positions (QB, RB, TE, and WR). I've seen different things for defense. Some leagues use a team defense. Others allow you to pick individual members of the defense. LB's usally the best to pick. They pile up more tackles than the other two parts of the defense.

Draft RBs and WR early. Wait on QBs because a good one will be available later and the difference between the #1 qb and #10 qb is not as much as at RB and WR.

My semi-sleepr. Plaxico Burress... could have a big year. And Santana Moss.

The only thing I'd add to that is the fact that you might be able to get a sleeper RB or WR as the draft goes on. With QBs, it's very difficult to find sleepers.

There are very few Kurt Warners or Aaron Brooks types, quarterbacks that you might pick up later.

I'd grab a top RB or two, then a QB. I always find good WR later. Each team has 2 or 3 that get a lot of action....

Skill players, kicker plus team defense. We only use scoring (TDs, FGs, safeties, PATs); some leagues use yardage and such. Three points for a passing TD, six points for all other TDs, and your team defense can earn points based on how many points they give up.
