The Fact Of The Matter Is...........
I have never heard Bud Selig speak for more than 5 minutes without him using the phrase "The fact of the matter is..........." at least once in what he is saying.
Makes me wonder - - does he do this because he knows what he is saying is a lie and subconsciously his brain is saying "be sure to pinpoint the buried kernel of truth hidden in this massive verbal turd that you're pinching off........" Listen to him next time - closely - you'll hear it. Says it every time.

Max. Accentuate the positive. Get past this - at least for a week. It's smiley time. Don't Bud on my parade. Don't let the Bud hit the fan. Bud happens. Who gives a Bud? Get it/Got it?

I've also noticed that Sarah Jessica Parker's character on Sex and the City says, "...and just like that..." an awful lot. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the fact of the matter is that SJP is also Bud Selig. Bear in mind, though, that I am not a real doctor. Nor do I have a mansion and a yacht.

now and then I like to say that our president is not dumb, just a bit disinterested. Well, one of the better things i can say about selig is that he's interested. ps - i did notice that "fact of the matter" thing pps - could he have looked worse during that press conference?! |

The fact of the matter is, it's a habit. A bad one he should break, as a public representative of a sport.
Had a guest lecturer for a class, used the word "essentially" a lot. The second time she came in (I think it was Biochemistry, maybe Anatomy) I kept track of them. She went over 100, in a 50-minute class. Nervousness and habit. The best part was when she said, "essentially, that essentially," and I almost collapsed in laughter. |

As a mean, grouchy Dad, I say 'No' about 100 times per hour. Does that count?
