Inducted Into The NetShrine Assembly of Fame
|
I can't believe I'm only the 2nd person to mention the Scooter, he has to go - Although I was vehemently opposed to Bunning's election I don't think I'd remove him - Joe Torre if he is ever elected - Ted Williams for brow-beating the veterans committee for years on behalf of his various pet projects - Just a few random HOF rants from me

Tommy McCarthy, hands down.
The reason he was selected was for his "pioneering" defensive ability. Yikes! Sherry Magee, George Van Haltren or Jimmy Ryan would have been far better selections among 19th Century outfielders. The saddest part is that McCarthy was selected by the "Old Timers Committee way back in 1946! Of course, there was no place to look at the facts back then.

Frankie did work overtime to make the choice hard, though!

But one of his "pet projects" was to advocate for the inclusion of Negro Leaguers in the HOF. That covers a multitude of sins, don't you think. Just imagine if the living Negro leaguers had been inducted en masse, and given crowbars to yank out the Frisch Cronies, and put their plaques in their places. Yesssssssssssss! ![]() |

Scooter was the one that came instantly to mind, but the posts here have convinced me that (at least) McCarthy was even less legit.

Now this would be good. Imagine Satchel pulling down a bad plaque and sticking his there. |

Without blinking...the junior half of the "Heavenly Duo," Tommy McCarthy.
