*--hit 1 yesterday

6) The A's moved into sole possession of 1st place in the AL West and raised their winning streak to 10 games.

7) The Diamondbacks clinched a winning season for the 4tb consecutive year.

8) Barry Bonds watch--hit #602, is 153 away from Aaron's record.

Bonds also got his 50th IBB of the season.

250+ HR, without getting 50 career IBB--

Code:
HR IBB 1 Ellis Burks 340 28 2 Ron Gant 317 37 3 Jay Buhner 310 41 4 Alex Rodriguez 285 23 T5 Dean Palmer 275 21 T5 Roger Maris 275 42 7 Dante Bichette 274 32 8 Tom Brunansky 271 43 9 Gorman Thomas 268 41 10 Eric Karros 266 19 11 Tim Salmon 265 41 12 Danny Tartabull 262 47 13 Bob Allison 256 30 14 Tony Armas 251 37

Most career RCAA, less than 50 career IBB--

Code:
RCAA IBB 1 Alex Rodriguez 345 23 2 Tim Salmon 315 41 3 Ellis Burks 267 28 4 Danny Tartabull 261 47 5 Roger Maris 236 42 6 Jim Edmonds 232 49 7 Brett Butler 228 23 8 Derek Jeter 216 16 9 Nomar Garciaparra 213 34 10 Jeff Kent 209 35

Corrections from yesterday--Carl Pavano was erroneously listed as starting for both the Marlins and Expos. Instead of him being cloned, Tomo Ohka started for the Expos.

Ken Griffey Jr. has 1840 career games, not 48.

1) On Wednesday, Manny Ramirez reached 1000 career RBI.

After 81 RCAA/1.154 OPS and 59 RCAA/1.014 OPS the past 2 years, Ramirez is off to a .603 SLG, .445 OBA, 1.049 OPS start in his first 86 games. He has a 1.004 career OPS, compared to his league average of 1.004, and 46 RCAA in 86 games. He's working on his 4th consecutive year with a 1.000+ OPS and 6th .400+ OPS in 8 years.

2) The Cubs called up P Alan Benes, to take Tom Gordon's spot on the roster.

Benes has a 4.42 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.27, and -11 RSAA in 101 games and hasn't made his 2002 debut yet.

3) Brewers CF Alex Sanchez was out of yesterday's lineup, due to disciplinary reasons. The team was upset that he was laughing in the field, along with teammate Izzy Alcantara, after Alcantara misplayed a ball. Meanwhile, Alcantara was either sent to the minors or designated for assignment (reports on split on this one), when C Raul Casanova was activated from the DL.

After a .569 OPS/-5 RCAA in 30 games in 2001, the 25 year old Sanchez is off to a .346 SLG, .339 OBA, .686 OPS, -3 RCAA in his first 103 games, in his first full year in the majors.

Alcantara is off to a .719 OPS/-1 RCAA start in 16 games (32 PA) and has a .758 OPS/-2 RCAA in 51 career games.

After -6 RCAA/.738 OPS and -2 RCAA/.787 OPS the past 2 years, Casanova's off to 2.30 SLG, .273 OBA, .503 OPS, -8 RCAA start in his first 31 games. He has a .671 career OPS, compared to his league average of .780, and -8 RCAA in 330 games.

4) Pirates SS Jack Wilson had to leave yesterday's game, due to a strained neck.

Wilson suffered the injury in pre game warmups, when he bumped heads with teammate Craig Wilson. After a terrible .550 OPS/-36 RCAA as a 23 year old rookie in 2001, Jack's off to a .334 SLG, .311 OBA, .645 OPS, -24 RCAA start in his first 119 games.

When he's not busy knocking out outmakers, Craig is hitting .441 SLG, .356 OBA, .797 OPS, 0 RCAA in his first 104 games, after a .979 OPS/13 RCAA season in 88 games as a 24 year old rookie in 2001.

5) Orioles OF Gary Matthews Jr. had to leave yesterday's game, due to a strained right wrist.

After -12 RCAA/.562 OPS and -12 RCAA/.705 OPS the past 2 years, Matthews is off to a .426 SLG, .354 OBA, .780 OPS, 7 RCAA start in his first 109 games (first 2 with the Mets). He has a .705 career OPS, compared to his league average of .776, and -19 RCAA in 364 games.

6) Twins RF Dustan Mohr was hit on the head by a foul ball during batting practice yesterday. Then, while pinch hitting, he fouled a ball off the plate, which bounced up and hit him in the mouth.

But, Mohr has a preventative cure, saying, "It just wasn't my day, I guess. Tomorrow I'm wearing a football helmet to batting practice."

While wearing a baseball uniform, the 26 year old rookie, who also appeared in 20 games in 2001, is off to a .439 SLG, .334 OBA, .774 OPS, 1 RCAA start in his first 96 games.

7) Tigers 2B Damion Easley was scratched from yesterday's lineup, to return home to be with his sick child. He's expected back tomorrow or Monday.

After -3 RCAA/.766 OPS and -13 RCAA/.699 OPS the past 2 years, Easley's off to a .363 SLG, .314 OBA, .677 OPS, -4 RCAA start in his first 64 games. He has a .737 career OPS, compared to his league average of .772, and -63 RCAA in 1170 games.

8) The Rockies sent P Shawn Chacon to the minors and called up P Brian Fuentes.

After a 5.06 ERA/5 RSAA as a 23 year old rookie in 2001, Chacon's off to a 5.73 ERA/-8 RSAA start in his first 21 starts.

After a 4.63 ERA/-1 RSAA in 10 games as a 25 year old rookie with the 2001 Mariners, Fuentes is off to a 7.00 ERA/-2 RSAA start in his first 15 games.

Rookie Aaron Cook will replace Chacon in the rotation. Cook's off to a 6.35 ERA/-1 RSAA start in his first 4 major league games.

9) The Indians called up C Josh Bard, placed C Einar Diaz on the 15 day DL and moved 2B Ricky Gutierrez from the 15 to the 60 day DL.

Bard, 24, came into the year with a .725 OPS (.346 OBA, .379 SLG) in 2 minor league seasons and was off to a .788 OPS (.332 OBA, .456 SLG) start in AAA this year. He provided a walkoff HR in his major league debut.

10) The Rangers sent P Rob Bell to the minors and activated P Chan Ho Park from the DL.

After starting his career with 5.00 ERA/0 RSAA and 6.67 ERA/-38 RSAA seasons, Bell is off to a 6.22 ERA/-11 RSAA start in his first 17 games (15 starts).

After 3.27 ERA/25 RSAA and 3.50 ERA/11 RSAA the past 2 years, Park's off to a 6.89 ERA/-19 RSAA start in his first 18 starts. He has a 4.04 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.39, and 13 RSAA in 239 games.

11) Astros P Roy Oswalt was suspended for 5 games, for hitting Cubs SS Alex Gonzalez with a pitch on August 12.

You guessed it. He's appealing.

After a 2.73 ERA/29 RSAA as a 23 year old rookie in 2001, Oswalt's off to a 3.03 ERA/26 RSAA start in his first 27 starts (plus 1 relief appearance).

Most RSAA through the age of 24, active pitchers--

Code:
1 Roger Clemens 105 2 Barry Zito 78 3 Pedro Martinez 64 T4 Kevin Appier 62 T4 Mark Buehrle 62 6 Freddy Garcia 58 7 Roy Oswalt 55 T8 Ismael Valdes 53 T8 Scott Erickson 53 10 Mike Mussina 50

12) The Marlins called up P Toby Borland, when they placed P Josh Beckett on the 15 day DL.

Borland has a 4.11 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.22, and 5 RSAA in 167 games. He's only appeared in 2 games, with the vast majority of his major league experience coming back in 1994-96.

13) The Padres claimed minor league P Carlos Garcia off waivers from the Dodgers and moved LF Ray Lankford from the 15 to the 60 day DL, to make room on the 40 man roster.

14) Instead of just being available for pinch hitting duties over the weekend, Ken Griffey Jr. moved over to LF, for his first career start at that position.

15) Cardinals P Matt Morris had to leave yesterday's game, due to a strained left hamstring.

After 3.57 ERA/6 RSAA and 3.16 ERA/28 RSAA the past 2 years, Morris is off to a 3.29 ERA/13 RSAA start in his first 28 starts. He has a 3.14 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.26, and 90 RSAA in 143 games.

16) The Astros sent P Brandon Puffer to the minors, to make room on the roster for Tom Gordon.

Puffer, a 26 year old rookie, is off to a 5.37 ERA/-6 RSAA start in his first 41 major league games.

17) Cubs P Matt Clement had to leave the team to be with his ailing father and his status for today's start is unknown.

After 5.14 ERA/-21 RSAA and 5.05 ERA/-16 RSAA the past 2 years, Clement is off to a 3.69 ERA/5 RSAA start in his first 25 starts. He has a 4.63 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.44, and -35 RSAA in 125 games.

According to UnderTheKnife--

18) "The players are ready to make a new proposal tomorrow [which is now today] and one union rep I spoke with tonight said 'This is really our best offer. There's some wiggle room, sure, but if the owners walk away from this one, I'm not sure what Don [Fehr] can do.' If you want to be optimistic - and I do, so badly - the discussion several teams are having about September callups has to be good news. Let's hope that we have a September for callups and that the players that have earned even a shot at a cup of coffee in the bigs gets to take a long drink from that cup. You know, I'll never pass up a good cup of coffee!"

19) It looks like Andruw Jones is going to need surgery on his shoulder, but it appears that he can put it off until the offseason.

But, I'm sure you already know that, don't you? You have subscribed to UTK, by going to http://www.willcarroll.com haven't you?

No one can do this by himself. Special recognition for this milestone should go to Jeff Kent, Reggie Sanders and Benito Santiago.
